Years ago a site like this had a thread where members would post a single horse per day, from any track, as their "best bet". Along with the horse, they explained their rationale behind picking that horse. It's not a contest, just an opportunity for people to post their handicapping "style" for a race.
I think it might be interesting to resurrect this idea. If there is any objective to this, it's to see if we collectively can be "winners" and also give others an insight to alternate methods of handicapping.
The "rules" are simple - one horse per day, any track and any race, along with the reasoning behind choosing that horse.
Anyone interested? If so, I'll keep a running tally of everyone's picks over a period of time.
Finally, if this catches on we might want to move it to the members' only Challenges forum.

Wednesday Best Bet Tampa Race 8 Horse #4 Cowgirl Spirit Several horse with class in this race but Cowgirl Spirit is the only contender with solid recent races. Was an impressive winner in last outing. Two for two at Tampa and I'm hoping she will be three for three after today. She should be able to sit behind the early speed and pounce in the stretch.

are we just trying to pick a winner or are we keeping tally of the payoffs?

I will go with gulfstream race 9 #7 minstrel road.
big number off maiden win and meets a bunch of professional donkeys. only competition is the 2 who may be half lame and even if he isn't, is not what he was 2 years ago. I like 7 with 2 with 134.

Cowgirl Spirit was in perfect position entering the stretch and folded like a bad poker hand. No excuses.

I certainly hope my best bet wins now. I just decked the 7th and am live on every ticket in the pick 5 with a 20 dollar horse. maybe I should have played the damn pick six today after all.

are we just trying to pick a winner or are we keeping tally of the payoffs? I'll keep a tally, not necessarily of each person's picks (which I can do) but of our collective bets to see if we can all turn a profit combined. It's not a contest, but hopefully a (corny term) "learning experience". I see you said you had a $20 winner - was that Padilla in the 7th? I bet him at 7-1, was happy he went up to 9-1, but looked like he was going to be off the board at the sixteenth pole! I'll give my "best bet" either for tonight's Charles Town card or start for real tomorrow.

yes padilla. I had the ex. good and the tri and super. I played 789 first and second and then first and third with 2310 in the other spots. plus im live in pick five on multiple tickets. of course this is the one day I didn't bet the pick six because I didn't think there was ny chance of it being an only with the small fields and don't like playing for 70% of the money without at least a glimmer of hope of taking down the jackpot.

I hope your ticker stood up to that stretch drive, even though you had the 2 on some of your tickets! Looks like horse on the lead at the top of the stretch on today's turf can't be beat. I saw you had an "ALL" so let's all root for a big one.

Nice pick Whiz and a very heads up ride by the jockey. Going to the lead on the back stretch was a wise move.

GF, like the format of your post, easy to follow....
Thursday Aqueduct Race 4 Horse #2 Frost Jordan
Two races, a loss by a neck on the main track and a closing win on the inner Dec. 31.
Rested for 9 weeks, but five evenly spaced workouts (last a 4F bullet last week) since January 17. The pace up front should set this one up for Frost Jordan, as long as he's not too far behind early. Hushion is having a good meet so far, and has about 25% winners with rested horses and 1st after maiden win.
The only other figure horse, #1 will be getting a lot of late money (Rodriguez money!) but he's a dead closer and is only 1 for 17, I don't think he'll get up at 6F.

FRIDAY GULFSTREAM HAVEE TWO TO CHOOSE FROM (ACTUALLY LIKE THIS CARD ALOT) AND TWO OTHERS I LIKE ALSO, BUT WILL GO WITH
RACE 5
#7 WILD ZZZZ
WILL BE ODDS ON BUT IS THE MOST LIKELY WINNER.
JUST PLAIN AND SIMPLE LAYS OVER THESE ON NUMBERS, GETS A POSITIVE TRAINER CHANGE, BIG DROP IN CLASS, AND CATCHES A WEAK FIELD. I MEAN IF YOU THROW OUT THE TWO TURN TURF RACE, ANY OF HIS RACES BEATS ANYONE ELSES BEST RACE IN HERE OTHER THEN THE 8'S LAST RACE. AND EVEN THAT ONES LAST ISNT CLOSE TO THE 7'S LAST RACE. DONT EXPECT MORE THEN EVEN MONEY THOUGH.

Friday Meadowlands Race 7 Horse #3 Muscolo In his most recent race he finished 2nd from the #10 post position when dropping from B-2 to C-1 level of competion. In his previous race against C-1 competition he won by 2.5 lengths. Tonight he is entered where he belongs.

Sorry, only 3 minutes to post for me!
Gulfstream Park Race 3 #3 Mr. D'oro
Looks like the most reliable speed. Should be ahead at the top of the stretch, and it may be a speed favoring track. The scratch of CD Gold doesn't hurt.

Of course it doesn't do much good picking a speed horse when your slug doesn't get out of the gate and is last to the top of the stretch!!!
