Who's your early pick? Wiz - sticking with Bayern? It's the Spa, Graveyard of Faves - This is a great fielkd. For now, I'm sticking with Wicked Strong.
Field of 10 Expected for the 2014 Travers Stakes By Gerard Apadula iSportsWeb
Led by 2014 Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist and 2014 Jim Dandy winner Wicked Strong, a field of 10 is expected to be drawn for Horse Racing’s “Mid-Summer Derby”, the 2014 Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course, on Tuesday at 6pm EST at Druthers, a restaurant in center city Saratoga.
Tonalist and Wicked Strong have exchanged decisions the last two times they met with Tonalist beating Wicked Strong in the Belmont Stakes by 4 ¼ lengths on June 7 before Wicked Strong turned the tables by 2 ½ lengths in the July 27 Jim Dandy.
Others expected to be entered include Commanding Curve, a hard charging second to California Chrome in the Kentucky Derby, Charge Now, a half-brother to 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, Woody Stephens and Haskell winner Bayern, the stretch running Kid Cruz, Belmont Derby Invitational winner Mr. Speaker, Ulanbator, who was fifth in the Jim Dandy and third in the Dwyer in his last two starts, V.E. Day, who has won three in a row including the Curlin Stakes his last time out and Viva Majorca, who sports a 5-2-0-1 record and was fourth in the Curlin Stakes. The original thought was that the Travers would draw a field of 11 but lost one possible participant this past week when Coltimus Prime was withdrawn from consideration.
Coltimus Prime, who won the second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown (The Prince of Wales Stakes, July 29 at Fort Erie), worked five furlongs in 1:05 flat Saturday morning over the Saratoga main track. The work sent a signal to trainer Justin Nixon.
He “went a little bit slow for me” and that “we will pass the Travers” Nixon said.

I love how this joker writing the story says it is led by tonalist and wicked strong and make them the main aspects of the article, but yet Bayern is the favorite, as he should be. there ya go though. horse racing media and their ever present east coast bias.

don't think there's any bias - the bias is home based by a cali for a cali - tonalist beat a much stronger field in the belmont and has a good 2nd over the spa track - spa surface very different from monmouth's (no wiz - i haven't walked the courses today but it is! mack - not so sure of that lol - no girls here as his toughest competition!

of course it is. just because the article is right there in print, I guess im imagining it. and tonalist beat a much stronger field according to who? everyone, including yourself was saying how untappable was better then any of the boys, but now it was a weaker field? Bayern beat a field of nine. wicked strong beat a field of six. Bayern was a grade 1. wicked strongs was a grade 2. the Haskell was worth 1 million. the dandy 600k. Bayern beat 4 tc contenders in albano, medal count, wildcat red, and social inclusion and the filly. wicked strong beat 3 tc contenders in tonalist, kid cruz, and commanding curve. Bayern earned a spped rating 11 points higher, a beyer 7 points higher, and a thorougraph number 1 3/4 higher which equals 3 1/2 lengths at that distance. so how exactly was the the jim dandy field stronger?

VE is fresh thats for sure. He hasnt run against these type of horses though. Bayern's Haskell win was one of the best 3 year old stakes I have watched all year and his crushing victory in the Woody showed me how versitle he is. From a handicapping perspective, I am trying defeat him with VE

3 posts without a response, all in response to one post I made? where have your posts been the rest of the week? or the last two weeks, other then your picks on your own thread? but as soon as I post something, theres your head, right up my ass again.
how's it taste up there?
what does picozza running tomorrow have to do with anything? what bearing does that have on any of this conversation? your picking v.e. day because picozza is in a nw1x alw.? your post makes no sense, as always. but at least you threw in your little lol at the end. was it supposed to be humorous that you simply pointed out that a horse is running?
would you like to bet horse for horse, v.e day against kid cruz? in fact I will bet you horse for horse kid cruz against any of your other 5 picks as well, other then Bayern.
oh wait. nevermind. I forgot. your a deadbeat who doesn't pay when he loses.

Actually I am excited that all of you horseracing geniuses came out of hiding from your fantasy (and I really mean FANTASY) stable tread to take a real stand on a real tread about a real big race where you have to put your money where your mouth is. lol. I think Bayern is vulnerable in this spot. He is running against some real good horses, and remember when he ran against the best in the triple crown races he folded big time. And still you have not said he will win but just he is the horse to beat. Sounds wishy washy to me. Anyway I think Mr. Speaker can beat him. And teenager. Maybe you should put Myositis Dan in your stable if you like him that much. However, Pablo can run that horse into the ground so I would advise against him. I would say Pablo is a mortal lock against Dan. lol.

Like why don't you read the form man or do you just pick cute names. lol. The reason why I have not posted all week is because I am on a job assignment in the Virgin Islands and been working 10 hour days. I just had a little time tonight since I knew the Whitney was tomorrow and am just getting back into the races for the weekend. You are the ones who never posted anything anywhere for a long time except on your fantasy stable site. As for VE day I was just joking - both VE day and Kid Cruz are on the same level in my books so it is just a crrapp shoot who will run dead last. lol. You really think I dat stooped?

lol virgin islands!!! yes, everyone here thinks you are that stupid, and you verify it with every post. you live in a fantasy land.
came out of hiding? put our money where our mouth is? exactly what money would that be? do you see any real money changing hands here? make sense jackass.
btw its a fantasy thread, not tread. once is a typo, multiple times means your an ignorant clown with an IQ in double digits.
exactly what is wishy washy? what don't you understand? just because I don't try to oversell every opinion I have like you do by calling everything a lock or cinch doesn't mean I am wishy washy. once again, something you still don't understand is that this is about gambling and making money. its not a dick measuring contest. if the odds were the same on every horse in this race I would be betting on Bayern. however when Bayern is going off at 8/5 and kid cruz is 10 or 15 to one, im betting on him. does that register in your pee brain?
once again, a perfect example of how you go out of your way to verify how dumb you are, with the Pablo crap. but of course you follow it up with an lol so you can say afterwards when you are wrong, as you always are, that you were just joking.

Greetings from Maine where it's quiet, relaxing but no internet or TV for a few days! Bayern is the fave - Wiz -The Belmont was a lot tougher field than the Haskell IMO - I'm sticking with Wicked Strong I think.
Bayern Gallops 1 1/2 Miles On Eve of Travers Bloodhorse
On his second morning at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 22, California shipper Bayern galloped 1 1/2 miles over the main track after the renovation break in preparation for the $1.25 million Travers Stakes (gr. I).
Kaleem Shah's Bayern is favored on the morning line at 2-1 in a field of 10 3-year-olds for the 145th renewal of the "Mid-Summer Derby" Aug. 23. Bayern jogged one mile on Thursday morning following his arrival from California late the preceding afternoon.
"We waited until after the break to get a decent track and he went over it very good; super good," said Jim Barnes, assistant to Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, who is remaining with his string at Del Mar.
"You just want to make sure that he's happy," said Barnes. "You don't want to lead a quiet horse over there. We're very familiar with shipping horses. We ship out a lot, and all the signs are looking good. He's a good horse."
Bayern will break from post 2 under jockey Martin Garcia in the 1 1/4-mile Travers, carded as the 12th of 14 races Saturday with a scheduled post time of 5:46 p.m. EDT. All 10 sophomores will carry 126 pounds.
In his most recent start, the Offlee Wild colt was a dominant 7 1/4-length winner of the 1 1/8-mile Haskell Invitational (gr. I) July 27 at Monmouth Park. He successfully stretch out to two turns in the Haskell following the seven-furlong Woody Stephens presented by RTN (gr. II), which he won by 7 1/2 lengths at Belmont Park.
"I think everybody knows what our plans are," Barnes said. "I think they're all (wondering), 'Can he get a mile and a quarter?' Looking at the form, I don't know who's going to go (with us) but you could compromise your own chances by going too fast early. As long as we have a sensible pace, you don't want to have to overcome anything."
Baffert is winless in three tries at the Travers since his 2001 victory with eventual Horse of the Year Point Given , who also was the last to complete the Haskell/Travers double. Among Baffert's Saratoga stakes victories are the King's Bishop, Alabama, Test, and Forego, all grade I races.
