Charles Town is closed for the week so they can convert their track over from the winter surface to the normal racing surface. I don't understand why NYRA, if it continues to race in the winter, doesn't do this and get rid of that inner track. It only takes about a week (four racing days) to do it. It gives the people a few days off, and results in better racing overall - not confined to 6F, 1-70, and 1-1/16 races.
In October or November, Charles Town will do the same thing - close for a week to convert back to the winter surface.
Are the people in the hills of West Virginia that much more sensible than sophisticated NYers?

big A should stay the way it is - big differences between the 2 - am sure both are intelligent enough to do what's best for them -
geeeesh george - what a snarky comment about W Virginians - totally offensive imo - queens ion't exactly a sophistication center!

Seems like anything I say is up for criticism from some these days.
What was said about West Virginia that's offensive?
And if one likes a steady diet of basically three distances, suit yourself. Maybe they can be convinced to use the inner track from October late April?

wow if offensive to anyone, that comment would have been offensive to new Yorkers, which it shouldn't be. its a very legitimate question. the inner track at aqueduct is the main reason why most horseplayers DONT play that hell hole, so why leave it the way it is cait? what is it about it that is appealing? or do you just want to disagree with any suggestion that might improve the racing at that hellhole? it seems you have plenty of suggestions as to how many works a grade 1 horse needs to have under her belt by a top notch trainer before she's allowed to make her return from a 6 1/2 month layoff (thankfully it wasn't a nine month layoff, that would have been a completely different situation, right?)

I see no suggestions from Cait. Big A's probably going to close so changing things would be a waste of $ IMO Wiz - The resty of your post has NOTHING to do with this thread. George - Perhaps you should have left out "hills of" as that infers hillbillies.
(Someone has to take on the new "dynamic duo" - or maybe Pres should come back? LOL)

Come on............."hills of" West Virginia is equivalent to "caverns of" Manhattan. Read what you want into it, an objective person wouldn't read anything offensive into that. By the way, the term "hillbilly" (which I didn't use!) refers more to western West Virginia and the Ozarks of Arkansas than eastern, "metropolitan" West Virginia. Maybe you guys should listen to some John Denver songs? ?

Oh Good Grief Charlie Brown!!! LOL What a big deal about NOTHING! Was your post deleted or edited? No! Was there a report? No! I was just making a suggestion. The one I deleted was "maybe if you said "from the hills of W Va to the slums of Long Is" rather than "hills" to "sophisticated NY'ers" as that sounded balanced, yet, seemed still offensive LOL Seriously, the area around Aqueduct? Aqueduct itself? "Sophisticated"? NOT! Phrasing it the way you did was the problem. People read words on a screen. They may not see them as you intended.
I think most people in the East, like me, think of "hillbilly" as meaning Appalachia. And I believe all of W Va is a part of Appalachia. Google the word and you get Oxford Dictionary: "an unsophisticated country person, associated originally with the remote regions of the Appalachians." Wiki: "is a term (often derogatory) for people who dwell in rural, mountainous areas primarily in Appalachia but also parts of the Ozarks in the United States. Due to its strongly stereotypical connotations, the term can be offensive to those Americans of Appalachian heritage."
And I really don't care. I just posted that because that's what you do! Annoying, huh? LOL
FTR - I can't speak for "we guys", but, for me - I never liked John Denver or his music. He never lived in Appalachia as far as I know either.

Back on topic - I think the winter track at the Big A is fine and I bet it saves $ to have it rather than replacing the track twice a year. Aqueduct is a lot larger than Charles Town. And I really don't think in 5 years it will matter.

and btw, ...........dynamic duo?
when I was fighting with George, everyone bitched at me. leave him alone, ignore him, its pres's fault, etc. truthfully, the only problems I had with him were political views. and I still do. but you guys put the kaibosh on that so now we really have nothing to fight about. I never had any other issues like pres did with him, and we all know who the instigator of most of those altercations was. so now that I get along with him you guys do nothing but rag on the guy. I don't get it.

Nobody's "ragging". And no. I don't know who the instigator was! And don't care! It's past my bedtime but I think you and George argued about racing things also, not just politics. No time to look back and not worth the time anyway!
You're so dynamic Wiz, it seems people like having you as a forum best bud (well - not one female but she probably is your real best bud LOL)

We discussed racing issues, and express our differences of opinion. That's not necessarily arguing......
So a post about how Charles Town handles the winter vs. the rest of the year, with an innocent comment about their location vs. the location of Aqueduct was assumed to be "offensive" (yes, that's the word that was used), and I'm making the big deal. Sheesh!
Good thing there isn't a race track in Laguna Beach, I might have made a comment about the people in "the hills" of Laguna.

just in case anyone cares about my opinion, I find it offensive when people refer to horses from ca. as 'drugged' with no proof

For the record, I live in the Appalachians, as do all residents of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and most of Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maine, New Hampshire, and southern New York (even Queens might be considered in the Appalachians!), and they stretch up into Canada in Newfoundland. Now, being of Canadian descent, let's not talk about "Newfies"!!!

ALL of you are making a "big deal". Wiz - most horses race on Lasix which is considered to be a drug - just sayin'
Suggest this thread end.

Wiz - No one mentioned drugs in this thread but you. George - No - but you wrote it and it offended someone - like it or not. Everyone has their own opinion. Yours is not always right. Thank you for proving my point - and Jon's. (I do expect one last post from George - but that still won't make him "right"! Everyone knows calling Aqueduct "sophisticated" is definitely "wrong" )
