Jersey Shore's Signature Race Just One Week Away Micromanage Throws Hat Into Haskell Ring
From Monmouth site
Owner Mike Repole has confirmed that Long Branch Stakes winner Micromanage will make his next start in Sunday’s $1 million William Hill Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on July 28.
“His win in the Long Branch was very impressive,” said Repole. “He overcame a lot of trouble to win going away. He is two-for-two over the track and he is getting better every start.”
In the July 7 Long Branch, Monmouth’s last major prep for the Haskell, Micromanage was carried extremely wide going into the first turn, before picking up horses going into the far turn and drawing clear in the stretch to win by 4 ½ lengths.
“I’m not sure what really happened around the first turn,” said jockey Joe Bravo, who was aboard Micromanage in the Long Branch. “We were sitting off horses and then we just ended up getting fanned out into the parking lot.
“After that, I thought the race was over, but around the 3/8ths pole he really started picking it up. That was a pretty impressive performance considering the trouble he got in.”
A $170,000 yearling purchase, Micromanage is by Medaglia d’Oro from the Flying Paster mare Catnip. In six lifetime starts the Todd Pletcher-trainee sports a record of 3-1-0, having broken his maiden by an easy five lengths at Saratoga in his debut last Sept. He then faced last year’s champion 2-year-old Shanghai Bobby in the Champagne (G1) and then stablemate Overanalyze in the Remsen (G2).
Micromanage captured his first start as a 3-year-old, an allowance event here on May 11. He followed that up with a runner-up performance to Power Broker in the Easy Goer Stakes before taking the Long Branch.
He will once again face the division leaders in the Haskell with the field expected to include Preakness (G1) winner Oxbow, Wood Memorial (G1) winner Verrazano, Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Golden Soul and Grade 1 winner Power Broker. Others considering the Haskell for their next start include Pick of the Litter and Uncaptured.
“It looks like there will be a good pace and the added distance will help,” Repole said. “It’s very exciting to have a horse in the Haskell.”
The Haskell will highlight a 14-race card next Sunday, which will include five graded stakes events. Gates will open at 10 a.m. with first post set for noon. The Haskell is slated as the 13th race with an estimated post time of 6:20 p.m.

Baffert will seek fourth straight Haskell with Power Broker
Trainer Bob Baffert will look to continue his stranglehold upon Monmouth Park's signature race when he sends out Power Broker in Sunday's $1 million Haskell Invitational. The Hall of Fame trainer has saddled a record six winners, including the last three runnings, of the Grade 1 event.
Baffert announced the colt's participation via twitter following a workout on Del Mar's Polytrack Tuesday.
"Power Broker going to Haskell," Baffert tweeted after Power Broker traveled five furlongs in 1:00 4/5. "Worked great today."
Baffert has captured the last three editions of the 1 1/8-mile Haskell with Paynter, Coil and Lookin At Lucky.
Winner of the Grade 1 FrontRunner at Santa Anita last October, Power Broker concluded his two-year-old campaign with a fifth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. The chestnut son of Pulpit was no factor when making a belated three-year-old debut, finishing fifth in the Santa Anita Derby, but rebounded to take an entry-level allowance at Churchill Downs on May 10.
Power Broker returned to stakes competition with a gusto last time out, drawing off to a 3 3/4-length score in the June 8 Easy Goer at Belmont Park. The Gary and Mary West color bearer registered a career-best 102 BRIS Speed rating.

Golden Soul confirmed for Haskell
Trainer Dallas Stewart will make his Haskell Invitational debut this Sunday when he saddles Kentucky Derby runner-up Golden Soul in the $1 million, Grade 1 test for three-year-olds.
"It's a great race to be in. It's the Haskell," said Stewart, a native of Mississippi. "Obviously, the purse is a million dollars, but it's one of those great races to be in, one that you're honored to be in, and you hope to have a horse good enough to compete in it."
That's exactly what Stewart will be bringing with him Sunday in Golden Soul. The colt broke his maiden last December at the Fair Grounds and has danced every dance since, including a runner-up finish to future Preakness winner and fellow Haskell competitor Oxbow in the Lecomte Stakes, and of course his hard-charging, second-place finish in the Kentucky Derby to Orb.
Golden Soul shipped into Saratoga from Stewart's Churchill Downs base one week ago, and in preparation for the 1 1/8-mile Haskell breezed five furlongs over the Oklahoma training track on July 20, going in 1:03 2/5, fifth fastest of 12 works that day.
"He worked great and came back well," the trainer said. "He's doing fine and I'm very happy with the way he's coming up to the race. He'll ship down to Monmouth the day before the race. So far, so good."
A homebred son of Perfect Soul from the Mr. Prospector mare Hollywood Gold, Golden Soul races in the colors of Charles E. Fipke.
Robby Albarado, who rode Golden Soul in the Derby and Belmont, will be in the irons for the Haskell. The jockey will be looking for his first Haskell victory, having finished second in 2001 atop Touch Tone, third in 2003 aboard Sky Mesa and third again in 2007 with Horse of the Year Curlin

Oxbow to arrive at Monmouth for Haskell on Friday The Associated Press –
OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) -- Preakness winner Oxbow is scheduled to arrive at Monmouth Park on Friday, two days before the Grade-1 $1 million Haskell Invitational.
Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas' 3-year-old colt is expected to be driven from Saratoga for a role as the probable favorite in Sunday's race.
Oxbow ran in all three legs of the Triple Crown, finishing second in the Belmont and sixth in the Kentucky Derby. Gary Stevens is expected to ride.
A field of five or six is expected for the Haskell with Wood Memorial winner Verrazano expected to be Oxbow's main competition.
Other possible entrants are Micromanage, who finished second in the Easy Goer stakes here, Kentucky Derby runner-up Golden Soul and possibly Pick of the Litter and Uncaptured.

If Saturday's a nice day, maybe I should get all dolled up and head to Monmouth LOL I'm teasing because I already have plans but it would be nice to see Mr Lukas in the winners circle! (wiz - shush!)
Oxbow Draws Post 5, Second Choice in Haskell By Claire Novak
Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner Oxbow drew post 5 and was installed as the 2-1 second choice for the $1 million William Hill Haskell Invitational (gr. I) to be run July 28 at Monmouth Park.
A total of seven sophomores entered the 1 1/8-mile test at the New Jersey oval, including Wood Memorial (gr. I) winner Verrazano, favored at 9-5 off a strong Pegasus Stakes (gr. III) score. Also in the field are Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) runner-up Golden Soul and grade I winner Power Broker.
Multiple graded stakes winner Vyjack, entered in the July 27 Jim Dandy (gr. II) at Saratoga Race Course, was named to this race as well with Paco Lopez to ride. A decision on a start in the Jim Dandy or Haskell was expected July 26; the Rudy Rodriguez trainee drew post 1 in the Haskell and 10—the far outside—in the Jim Dandy.
Oxbow, Calumet Farm's 3-year-old son of Awesome Again , finished second in the June 8 Belmont Stakes (gr. I) by 3 1/4 lengths to Palace Malice last time out. He will be ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens, who was aboard for his wire-to-wire Preakness win, and carries high weight of 122 pounds. Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas saddled Haskell winner Serena's Song in 1995 with Stevens aboard. "The post position for Oxbow, sort of like his racetrack, hasn't really seemed to matter other than in the Arkansas Derby (gr. I)," Stevens said. "I had it in my mind in that race that we were going to try to rate him and that was a bad desicion, it didn't play out well. This horse is one-demensional in that he tries every time and carries good speed. I'll just try to let the race play out as it may...but we'll be up there close, that's just his style.
There's a lot on the line on Sunday for the horse and all involved, so I'm looking for a big effort. Wayne has freshened him up for a good second half of the year campaign." Let's Go Stable's Verrazano, who entered the Kentucky Derby a perfect 4-for-4 but then ran 14th in the Run for the Roses, aims for the Haskell off an impressive comeback—a front-running score in Monmouth's June 16 Pegasus Stakes (gr. III) for trainer Todd Pletcher. He drew the far outside and will be ridden by Hall of Famer John Velazquez under 120 pounds. All others carry 118. The More Than Ready colt, a half brother to graded stakes winner El Padrino, has won five of his six starts, all with Velazquez in the irons. "We've kind of circled this race, used the Pegasus to get here, and everything's gone smoothly," said Bryan Sullivan of Let's Go. "The Pegasus worked out great...he really liked the track a lot so if he can duplicate that kind of race I think we'll be in good shape on Sunday." Another Hall of Fame conditioner, Bob Baffert, is seeking an unprecedented fourth consecutive Haskell win and his seventh victory overall. Winner of the past three editions with Paynter, Coil, and Lookin at Lucky , he sends out Gary and Mary West's Power Broker, who easily captured the June 8 Easy Goer Stakes at Belmont Park by 3 3/4 lengths and is on a two-race win streak. "The horse worked really well the other day," said Baffert, who sent the Pulpit colt through five furlongs in 1:01 4/5 on July 23 at Del Mar. "I know it's going to be a tough race, Verrazano and Oxbow have already proven they're really nice 3-year-olds, so hopefully we'll be able to run with them. I think this horse, the way he's been training, deserves a chance. I don't know how good he is but we're going to get a good gauge here of how good he really is." As a juvenile, Power Broker notched his greatest win in the Frontrunner Stakes (gr. I), formerly the Norfolk, at Santa Anita Park. He was fifth in the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I), but then his 3-year-old season debut was delayed until the April 6 Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), where he finished fifth. Jockey Rosie Napravnik comes in to ride Power Broker from post 4 in his fourth start of 2013.
"He has speed and I'm sure he'll be up there close with those horses," Baffert said. "I'll let Rosie ride her race. She knows the horse really well, she knows what he likes and what he doesnt like. He's been training well and it's going to be a good class check for him. I think he deserves the chance. We could have easily gone to West Virginia (for the grade II West Virginia Derby Aug. 3) but the way he worked the other day, if he could run first or second it would be worth the trip." Trainer Dallas Stewart will be represented by his first Haskell starter in Golden Soul. Charles Fipke's homebred son of Perfect Soul was a hard-charging second to Orb in the Kentucky Derby and will be making his first start since running ninth in the Belmont. "He's pretty much a come-from-behind horse, so I don't think the post position is a factor," said Stewart, whose runner will break from the 3 hole under Robby Albarado. "He should be okay. At Monmouth it's kind of a speed-favoring type racetrack as everybody knows, so I wouldn't want to be more than seven to 10 lengths back, somewhere in there. "His worktab has been solid, his weight has been solid, everything looks good. He looks great, like he's ready to run a big race. Just the way he looks, I'm very happy with him. He wasn't even 3 when he ran in the Derby, he's a May 14 foal, so with age he should be getting better." Micromanage, Repole Stable's solid winner of the July 7 Long Branch Stakes, seeks his first graded win for Pletcher. The Medaglia d'Oro colt was runner-up to Power Broker by 3 3/4 lengths in the Easy Goer, but is 2-for-2 at Monmouth where he started his season with a determined May 11 allowance score. Jersey ace Joe Bravo gets the mount from post 6.
Crossed Sabres Farm's Pick of the Litter will come back off a layup to target this spot for trainer Dale Romans. The Kitten's Joy colt ran third in the April 20 Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. III) over the Keeneland Polytrack in his last start; he won a Feb. 27 maiden event by 7 1/2 lengths second time out going 1 1/8 miles at Gulfstream Park, but ran sixth in the Besilu Stables Florida Derby (gr. I) before the Lexington.
"He had a strained gluteal muscle so we had to give him time; he never missed training but we had to back off of him," Romans said. "He's come along well. It's either an '(allowance) other than' or the Haskell, and there's a lot of money in the Haskell. It's a short field and he's been training so well in the past few weeks, so I thought why waste the opportunity? He'll come down Saturday from Saratoga and I'll be there. I love Haskell day, I think it's one of the best days we have in summer racing." $1 million William Hill Haskell Invitational (gr. I, Race 13, approximate post time 6:20 p.m. EDT), 3YOs, 1 1/8 miles (dirt) PP, Horse, Jockey, Weight, Trainer, Odds 1.Vyjack (KY), Paco Lopez, 118, R R Rodriguez, 12-1 2. This is gonna be a great race. I would love to see Oxbow win it for The Coach. Fun fact, Lukas's last win in the Haskell was back in 1995 with his Champion Filly, Serena's Song. And who was she ridden by? None other than the great Gary Stevens himself.
But, we all know that Baffert owns this race. Powere Broker deserves respect.

poor #2 in the 10th race tomorrow................ he was doomed from the start!! with a name like that and ahalf brother like crap daddy, he never had a chance. and they paid 370k for this thing!! lolol. good investment. strat the pick four with an automatic line-out, and end it with one!!
barring late scratches, here is my late pick four plays at Monmouth tomorrow...........
37810/135610/45811/467= 120.00 37810/156/251011/467= 72.00 7810/156/511/467= 27.00x2= 54.00 total = 246.00
horses I like best as straight plays at a decent price would be #7 in race 10 and #5 in race 12. good luck nancy!! (but not too good because im sure you will be adding at least one horse in to the mix somewhere)

How is verazzano 9/5?

He (Verrazano) is the Benefit of the Doubt horse. Everyone will give him a pass on the Derby(rightly or wrongly) and say he isn't that bad and then he comes back and wins by 9 in his last. He may be a money pit today but who knows, I will have him on my P4 ticket. There does seem to be a lot of speed in the race and that's why I will use the #6 as well.

exactly what byanose said. hes not a horse to bet on but hes not a horse to throw out.. you still don't know what his ultimate ability will be. his last race means nothing. he beat a 4 horse field of nobodies when he set a pedestrian pace. but even without that, he is fresh an clearly at one time talented enough to beat these. I would not bet him straight, but if I catch 3 prices in the p4, im sure as hell not gonna lose a big score because I miss him

due to the late scratch of my best value play in the first leg of the p4, I am remapping out my plays. forget the precious ones..........
3810/156/24581011/467= 81.00 3810/135610/511/467= 45.00 3810/135610/5/467= 22.50 3810/156/511/467= 27.00x2=54.00 3810/156/5/467= 13.50x2= 27.00 total $229.50 really like swift warrior in the 12th the more I look at him. maybe playing only once a week will turn out to be my new game plan. last week I only bet one day and made like 1k so hopefully that will work here too!
one correction made.

kicking myself. I should have played that exacta. really the only two I liked. the 3 was the only question mark with no turf experience that mattered so I pissed away money on him in the p4. then didn't bet the exacta. dumb on my part.
