20+ years ago? are you serious? name any track in the country that is even drawing 1/3rd of what they were back then other then del mar and Saratoga, and i'll eat my wayne lukas autogracked belt buckle!! that an insane comparison!! I was talking about the per capita handle - it hit $100 per day average in the 1970s at Aqueduct/Belmont and has remained above that level, much higher actually, since then. Through the first week it's $128/$181. That is the best gauge of the quality of racing - how much people are willing to bet on their races.

" Baffert said. “I think he thinks he won. I don’t know if he ever saw Verrazano go by." "
What a stupid thing to say, didn't Baffert watch the race? Verrazano never "went by" - Power Broker was fifth after the start, and was behind Verrazano from start to finish!

Always a privilege to work on good horses. Racing at Saratoga & Monmouth Park was special this weekend. Very proud to have helped!

GREAT run by VErrazano...also POwer Broker...I suspect Bob was crowing about it because he is proud of the horse for stepping it up in class to run with the field in this one...considering all the other talented horses in the field, I think he ran pretty darned well. I think I might crow a bit too. LOL....
And JIll is my friend so I'll steer clear of commenting on that part & plead the fifth. LOL!
Can't wait to see where Verrazano runs next...he was at the very top of my Derby hopefuls list very early on so after his flop in the Derby it was very nice to see him back "en poiinte".
