my bad. I misread that. but see I can admit when I'm wrong unlike others on here. I thought you typed "deaths at phenomenal del mar", not "phenomenal deaths at del mar". easy enough mistake to make, and I admit to it.
I do not want to argue and fight, but I get dragged into it by your buddy
believe me, the last thing I am is jealous of Saratoga. if that were the case all I would have to do is just start betting there. its not like I own stock in del mar or santa anita. its not like I am forced into attending the races here when I really want to go there. I'm not going to either one live. why or how would I be jealous? I'm just truthful. and yes, for me, I would rather and do bet Ferndale over Saratoga. its not even close.

The bottom line is that the rate of racing deaths is down 25% over the last eight or nine years, and one would intuitively surmise that training deaths are down by a similar number.
One other thing, although racing deaths are not anything anyone wants to see, there were more than 52,000 starters last year and only 80 fatalities. I'm sure that's a lot lower than many would think the way people (and PETA!) talk.

George - what about career ending injuries? Are there stats for those? I do believe NY racing is more informative than other areas and think there are areas where they try to "cover up". PETA is the worst - a total sham. Never relinquish an animal to their "shelters" - they will kill it.

PETA is the worst - a total sham. Never relinquish an animal to their "shelters" - they will kill it. I doubt that any state or track documents career ending injuries - that can be so subjective. What happens if a horse has a career ending injury and then a year later the owner / trainer finds out the horse recovered better than expected? But as you say, New York keeps an injury database for all tracks, but doubt they can follow up on injuries to see if ultimately a horse dies. Just too complicated to make it worthwhile. And PETA winds up killing more animals than they save. I just wish Asmussen had sued them and put them out of business. What they did to him was deplorable.
