It was 20 years ago. Paulick mentioned it. Here's the vid link (you don't need to d/l anything - just click on vid arrow!) fbvideodownloader.info/videos/10154599130489733Flashback: The Great Jockey Switch Of 1996 by Paulick Report Staff The Melbourne Racing Club (@caulfield) reminded its Twitter followers that this year's Boxing Day is the 20th anniversary of one of the most unlikely occurrences in horse racing history, the so-called Great Jockey Switch of Boxing Day in 1996. That afternoon at Caulfield, two horses ridden in the Christmas Stakes by brothers-in-law – Jason Patton on Cogitate and 17-year-old apprentice Andrew Payne on Hon Kwok Star – got tangled up at at the top of the straight. Cogitate stumbled, with Patton losing his balance and eventually falling. Payne wound up getting tossed from his mount (Hon Kwok Star) as well, but landed right on top of Cogitate, then continued to ride him out to the finish. Payne, incidentally, is the brother of 2015 Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne. She won the 2016 edition of the Christmas Stakes aboard Lucky Liberty.
