TwinSpires.com License Revoked In Virginia Paulick Report
The Virginia Racing Commission has suspended the license of TwinSpires.com, according to the Blood Horse. Effective of Dec. 18, the suspension of the advanced deposit wagering company is a result of unpaid fees to racing entities in the state.
According to Virginia state law, ADWs in the state are required to submit a portion of each dollar wagered to be split between the purse accounts, breed development programs, and the Virginia Equine Alliance. TwinSpires.com currently owes $688,000 to the VEA, Virginia Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association, Virginia Harness Horsemen's Association, and breeders, according to Bloodhorse.com.
The VRC informed TwinSpires.com that if the money was not received by 5:00 PM EST on Dec. 18, its license would be revoked. Following written communication from TwinSpires.com that no money was forthcoming, the VRC ordered the license suspended and the company to inform its customers, so that they could retrieve their funds.
