John Gosden full of praise for Golden Horn ahead of potential Arc bid

John Gosden has hailed Golden Horn as the best middle-distance three-year-old he has ever trained ahead of his potential run in the in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe next week.
The Clarehaven handler has guided the careers of Derby winner Benny The Dip and exceptional fillies such as The Fugue, Dar Re Mi and Taghrooda but he believes this year's Derby, Eclipse and Irish Champion Stakes hero tops the lot.
However, his participation in France next weekend is still not certain were the ground to come up soft and the trainer offered up the possibility of a trip to America for the Breeders' Cup.
"If the ground is good to soft or better that would be great and he'd run and I'd think Jack Hobbs would then wait for the Champion Stakes but we are very much in the hands of the weather and we'll see how the ground plays," said Gosden.
"If we get the ground, great, if we don't then we might have to reverse the plans again.
"He has a lot of speed, the Breeders' Cup comes later in the year. I walked that track (Keeneland) the other day when I was over there for the sales, it's in good condition, and there's no reason that couldn't be a swansong for him at the end of the year which is something to consider as well.
"He's probably the best three-year-old middle-distance horse I've ever trained and I've had a few through my hands."
Despite Gosden making such a claim, though, there appears no possibility of him staying in training as a four-year-old.
"I had a good go at Mr Oppenheimer (owner) with Frankie (Dettori) in the plane on the way back from Ireland but he would not move," Gosden told At The Races.
"That was our one big chance and we didn't even land a TKO never mind a knockout!"
