Ironicus Injured, Will Miss Breeders’ Cup Mile Paulick Report
Stewart S. Janney III’s Ironicus has been sidelined with a cannon bone fracture in the right foreleg that will force him to miss the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Keeneland on Oct. 31, according to Daily Racing Form.
Winner of the G2 Bernard Baruch Handicap in course record time for 1 1/16 miles on turf at Saratoga on Sept. 7, the gray son of Distorted Humor will have a screw inserted to help the fracture heal, trainer Shug McGaughey told DRF’s David Grening. He is expected to return to the races in 2016.
The stretch-running Ironicus also won the G2 Longines Dixie Stakes on the Pimlico turf on May 16 and was second, beaten a neck, in the G2 Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga on Aug. 15. He’s won four of his six starts, with two seconds, in 2015 and is 5-of-11 overall. The 4-year-old Janney homebred was produced from the A.P. Indy mare Meghan’s Joy.
