Steve Penley Named Official Artist For The 2015 Breeders’ Cup

The Breeders’ Cup today announced that Steve Penley, known for his iconic American subjects ranging from past presidents to historical themes and super consumer brands, has been named the official artist for the 2015 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Penley has created a signature image, available to the public, employing a rich montage technique celebrating the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky., on October 30-31.
The Breeders’ Cup is Thoroughbred racing’s most prestigious international event, consisting of 13 races and purses and awards totaling $26 million. It is also an annual gathering of stars from entertainment, business, sports and celebrities from all walks of life, and held at one of the world’s most picturesque horse racing venues. The Breeders’ Cup will be televised live by the NBC Sports Group.
The 2015 official Breeders’ Cup image accentuates frontal views of charging Thoroughbreds, which is combined with side perspectives and several recognizable features such as the starting gate and stately green gate posts at Keeneland. Considered Coca-Cola’s artist in residence, Penley has created many paintings as gifts for Fortune 500 companies and regional food giants. His distinguished list of corporate and institutional collections include, The Federal Reserve Board in Washington D.C., Kaiser Permanente, ESPN Zone, King and Spalding, Booth Western Art Museum, Georgia Museum of Art, the Ronald Reagan Museum, and the Robert Mondavi Estate to name but a few. Private collectors include Clint Eastwood, Frank Lutz, Vince Dooley, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dave Ramsey, former House Speaker, Newt Gingrich and Gary Sinise.
In 2004, Penley was selected as the official artist for the G-8 Summit on Georgia’s Sea Island. Penley’s international breakthrough was heralded by the selection of this works for “True Color: Meditations on the American Spirit/An Artist’s Response to 9/11.
