Still riding at 53! Go Joy and get well! Santa Anita: Jockey Joy Scott breaks leg in training accident By Jay Privman Photo:Shigeki Kikkawa Jockey Joy Scott suffered a compound fracture to her right femur during a training accident on Tuesday morning at Santa Anita, according to her son, Jesse Sanchez. Sanchez, 25, lives in New York City. He said he was going to fly to California Tuesday night in order to be with his mother by Wednesday. Sanchez, in a telephone call, also confirmed that Scott was admitted to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, Calif. Darrell Haire, the West Coast regional manager of the Jockeys' Guild, was not at Santa Anita at the time of the accident, but said witnesses told him Scott was on a horse who reared over and fell. In 2001, Scott broke the same leg in a five-horse accident at Los Alamitos. Scott, 53, rides Thoroughbreds at both Santa Anita and Los Alamitos. She had won five times from 63 mounts this year. Last year, she won 11 times in 175 mounts, her runners earning $211,325. During her career, which began in 1981, Scott has won 466 races from 6,600 starts.
