I think it's great they did this and added another stakes for the original date. Probably the beginning of no more Big A though.
Ruffian Handicap moved from Wood Day to Belmont in May By Jon Forbes NYRA
The Grade 2, $250,000 Ruffian Handicap for fillies and mares, originally scheduled for April 5 at Aqueduct Racetrack, will now be contested on May 11, Mother's Day, at Belmont Park.
The one-mile Ruffian will share the spotlight on May 11 with the Grade 1 Man o' War and the Grade 3 Westchester. The Man o' War and Ruffian will be shown live on Fox Sports 1 on a broadcast that will air from 4:30-6 p.m. as part of "The Jockey Club Tour on Fox" series.
Previously, the Ruffian was scheduled to be part of the Grade 1 Wood Memorial undercard. The $100,000 Cat Cay, a one-mile race for fillies and mares, has been added to the stakes schedule and will be contested on Sunday, April 6 at Aqueduct.

I don't understand WTF they're doing. Up until 3 years ago it was always run at Belmont in the fall. Then two years ago they moved it to Saratoga, and last year for some ungodly reason they moved it to April at Aqueduct ( ?). It's for 3YO and up, not much chance of any 3-year old fillies running against older females in April or even May. The good ones are still running in the top 3YO filly stakes. The Man O' War too had always been run at Belmont Park in the fall, but was moved to July, still at Belmont Park. This year it's in early May? They might as well make them both for 4YO and up, no really good 3YOs will be entered in either. At least the Westchester is still being run at about the same time of year - April or early May. All this notwithstanding, to think it has anything to do with some rumored closing of Aqueduct is probably way wrong. By the way, for those who think that Andrew Cuomo's top priorities in running the third most populated state in the country is the New York Racing Association, remember that he's up for re-election. I haven't followed him closely, but I don't think he's lived up to his promise of 3 years ago. All this speculation about NYRA had better come true in 10 months, Cuomo may not be governor early next year.

who really cares? just one more bloated purse that will attract a 5 horse field and no fans to the track on that day because the ones that will be there would have already been coming anyway due to the other stakes already scheduled. another waste of what could be a major drawing card on a slow day, only to be an add on to the undercard of an already highlighted day of racing. my god it amazes me how dumb these asswipes are that run these tracks.

wiz, in this case you're right - the last thing anyone (young, at least) is thinking about on Mother's Day is going to the race track.

George - It's for the Fox series - They probably didn't want a film crew at Aqueduct LOL
