Aqueduct cancels Friday card due to winter storm By David Grening DRF
OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Aqueduct canceled Friday’s nine-race card due to a winter storm that was forecast to hit the metropolitan area late Thursday and last through Friday morning. It is the second cancellation of the winter meet.
New York Racing Association officials were going to wait until Friday morning to decide whether to open Aqueduct and/or Belmont Park for simulcasting.
In addition to a forecast that calls for six to eight inches of snow, temperatures for Friday were to be in the teens, with windchills near or below zero.
Live racing is scheduled to resume Saturday with the runnings of the Grade 2, $200,000 Jerome and the $100,000 Busanda stakes. First post is 12:25 p.m.
