Barriers stall Ararat meeting after Racing Victoria announces updates to works at troubled tracks
TALK about irony. The day Racing Victoria provided updates to works on troubled tracks such as Yarra Valley, Benalla and Hanging Rock, calamity struck at Ararat. First, jockeys raised fears about a soft patch of turf at the 400m mark but, before that could be dealt with, the barrier stalls toppled over while being towed by tractor to the start line.
A crane was needed to right the stalls and the meeting began at 3.30pm, two hours after the scheduled start, following a jockeys' vote.
