What a special, special horse John and Betty Mabee's homebred, Event Of The Year was. To this day, I still believe that this horse would've been the 1998 Kentucky Derby Winner and possibly even a Triple Crown Winner had fate not intervened. What could have been? "Event of the Year looked like a middleweight boxer, muscle from head to toe. And he did everything so easily, just an effortless stride." — Rick Taylor www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/76957/event-of-the-year-had-turfway-inspired-in-98

You're more than welcome Ev EOTY most definitely would have been one of if not the favorite for the '98 Derby. He came back from his injury the next year to run second to Free House while beating the '97 Kentucky Derby Winner, Silver Charm in the Big 'Cap but unfortunately re-injured himself in his next start before being retired for good. There is no telling how good he could have been had he stayed healthy. But the Seattle Slew offspring are notoriously unsound and prone to injury. This trait has been passed on through generations from Slew's son, A.P. Indy, his grandson, Pulpit and now his great grandson, Tapit. All nice horses but not good horse flesh as I'm sure "Teach" aka E1 would agree lol.
