This year's group going for the 50 big Derby Points for the winner will include,
Uncaptured, by Lion Heart, is the winner of both of Churchillfs 2yo graded adventures last fall in the GIII Iroquois Stakes and GII Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes finally will make his 2013 3yo debut here on Saturday. He does have a treasure trove of poly experiences at Woodbine winning 4 of 5 races over that synthetic surface as a 2yo last season!
Fear The Kitten, by Kittenfs Joy, came 5th in that GII Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes last fall at Churchill, then a good 3rd to Oxbow in the GIII Le Comte Stakes at the Fair Grounds 2-back, then finished 2nd in that sloppy GIII Southwest Stakes to a now diminished Super Ninety Nine last out!
Capo Bastone, out of Street Boss, was 3rd in both the GI Frontrunner Stakes and GI Breedersf Cup Juvenile Stakes at Santa Anita last year. He debut here in 2013 in a big $56k 1 1/16 mile Gulfstream Alw dust-up run over a sloppy track to win by a head in his first 3yo start of the year!
Mac The Man, by Elcorredor, winner of 3 in a row here at Turfway Park including the first 2 Derby trail prep races here this winter. Skipped the Battaglia Stakes prep here last out to be fresh for this big graded effort here on Saturday! Hefll be a local favorite here on Saturday to be sure!
General Election, by Harlanfs Holiday, is the 2013 Battaglia Stakes prep winner last out and will also take a lot of local money here on Saturday from the Turfway faithful, too!
Balance the Books, by Lemon Drop Kid, also looks to make his 2013 3yo debut here on Saturday as he rolled out of 2012 with wins in the GII With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga and GIII Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland, before closing out his 2yo campaign with a good 3rd in the Breedersf Cup Juvenile Turf tussle! Could be this one will end up on the 3yo graded turf circuit this year, but why not try him in a Derby test first?
Black Onyx, by Rock Hard Ten, is in here off a big Gulfstream $54k turf alw win where he covered that 1 1/16 mile distance in a snappy 1:40.4 to edge away to a 1 1/4 length victory! Again, you might find this one on the 2013, 3yo graded turf circuit should the derby dream evaporate out on the Turfway poly this Saturday!
Channel Isle, by English Channel, is another D. Wayne Lucas pupil finishing 4th in that same sloppy GIII Southwest Stakes last out! We now know you can just draw a line thru that race after Saturdayfs amazing reversal of fortunes of Super Ninety Nine, Texas Bling and Will Take Charge in the GII Rebel Stakes! Could D. Waynefs have another derby horse here?
My Name Is Michael, by Macho Uno, has finished 2nd in the Display Stakes at Woodbine last fall and 3rd this year in the GIII Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs last out! This onefs a Bill Mott pupil and his regular rider is the heady Joel Rosario!
Giant Finish, by Frost Giant, with the Tony Dutrow and Gabrial Saez connections finished 2nd here in the Battaglia Stakes last out. Hefll be more local color for this big graded event here at Turfway Park this Saturday!
So, lots of do-re-me and 50 all important derby points for this yearfs winner will all be in play here in the $550,000, GIII Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati Spiral Stakes this Saturday as Turfway Park will give its all, once again, to the Kentucky Derby scene this year!
