yes it is a good thing. nothing wrong with surmising your situation and making the best of it. the days of six day racing weeks are over, unless you want to run 8 maiden turf races a day that no one wants to bet like Saratoga does. 3 to 4 days a week with bigger fields is the way to go for most tracks now, especially with simulcasting. theres always something or somewhere to bet for the action whores and it makes it easier for the real gamblers and handicappers to get their work done. as far as los goes, they never gave it a chance and now it is doomed. from the start it was all about stall space for the horses running at the del mar and santa anita meets anyway after Hollywood closed. but the way divided up the racing dates for los al was idiotic from the start. who the hell wants to bet an 8 day meet? they should have just lumped their days altogether and made 3 race meets. why all the jumping around and causing more expenses for the horsemen with moving from track to track and making it impossible for handicappers to get a grasp on the track as far s biases and variants go? the CHRB completely screwed los al in every way on that one.

Saratoga averages 3 maiden races a day, lower than most tracks, and everyone wants turf racing - fans and trainers.
I agree with you about Los Alamitos, what a mistake to convert the ~three-week Pomona (Fairplex) meet into two short two week meets months apart. The racing was horrible, the fields were short, and attendance/handle were abysmal. Less than 1000 people on Thursday and Friday? That rivals Aqueduct attendance in the dead of winter (which should be discontinued too!)
Race tracks have to face reality and admit that 52-week circuits just don't work anymore. They sprouted up out of the popularity of racing in the 1970s, but that was very short lived. Shut down for a couple of months in NY, and do away with the quasi-meets at Los Alamitos.
Half of that is going to come true anyway - with the state of Los Alamitos, both thoroughbred and quarter horse racing, I can't see them surviving for too much longer. It'll be a sad day when they do close down, but it's inevitable.

not everyone. most professional gamblers don't.
los al will be open no later then when allred dies. that might be next week and it might be 3 years from now. no one else wants to run it or keep it open at this point. but like I said earlier, the problem is they need los al for the stable area. more then half of the horses stabled there don't run there, afternoon or night. if it closes they will rezone it and sell it at some point. they are currently trying to find other options again but as of now they need the place to stay open.
