Black Caviar faces six in Friday test
Last Updated: March 18 2013, 11:45 GMT
Australia's champion mare Black Caviar will face six rivals in Friday night's Group One $404,000 Hacer Group William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley as she attempts a 24th straight victory.
In what is likely to be the Peter Moody-trained mare's final Victorian start, she will jump from barrier six for jockey Luke Nolen with dual Group 1 winning West Australian Luckygray drawing the inside gate.
Moody has also entered stable mate Karuta Queen, who notably finished second behind Black Caviar as a three-year-old under former trainer Neville Layt in the 2011 Group 2 Schillaci Stakes.
Other key acceptances include classy Queensland sprinter Spirit Of Boom who has drawn the outside barrier (7), former Hong Kong champion Good Ba Ba who will begin from barrier five and last year's Group 1 Emirates Stakes runner-up Fawkner who will start from gate four.
The Malua Racing-trained Linton is the final of the seven acceptors with the classy son of Galileo to kick start a campaign that could ultimately end in the Group 1 Singapore Airlines International Cup in May from barrier three.
Gary Wilkie, one of the part-owners of Black Caviar is looking forward to the night: "We're so keen to see what she does for us on Friday night, she left Flemington with a track record.
"We're just hoping that she's healthy and just continue on and we'll see where we end up."
Future plans for the star mare remain up in the air with talk of her retirement to the breeding sheds dominating press-conferences and the possibility of a mating with Frankel was put to Wilkie.
"There are a lot of things to work out; you've got to work out whether you want a southern hemisphere or northern hemisphere relationship and then what horse. There's obviously going to be a lot of discussion yet by a lot smarter men than me.
"It would be pretty special wouldn't? It would be very special, number one and two in the world mating; it'd be pretty extraordinary," he told www.racingvictoria.net.au.
