Trainer Mike Maker was represented by his 1,000th career winner March 16 when Magical Season won the third race at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots (VIDEO). A 4-year-old gelded son of Value Plus owned by William J. Butler, Magical Season ran the 5 1/2 furlongs on turf in 1:03.70 in the $24,000 claiming race. In 1993, Maker began a 10-year stint with Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas and established his own stable in 2003. Among the top horses trained by Maker have been 2011 champion 2-year-old colt Hansen , grade I winner Stately Victor , and stakes winners Artemus Kitten, Derby Kitten, and Juanita. www.makerstables.com/news.shtml#1000
