it's still a guy's business - getting better but same thing happens here - come to md! it's the best place for young jocks and girls get lots of mounts - because they're good jocks! There’s Not A Lot Of Loyalty’: Sovereign Award-Winning Apprentice Quits Race Riding Paulick Erika Smilovsky, last year voted the top apprentice jockey in all of Canada, is so tired of being mistreated by trainers and owners that she decided to quit race riding, reports the Toronto Sun. One issue Smilovsky discussed was galloping a horse for over two months without pay, only to be taken off the horse at race time. “You gallop for them, you don't get paid. You're promised a ride, you get nothing,” said Smilovsky. “There's not a lot of loyalty. There's not a lot of ethics back here.” Not afraid of hard work, Smilovsky will continue to work on the racetrack as an assistant trainer for her partner, Woodbine trainer Darwin Banach. “I put a lot of work in last year. I put in a lot of effort. I put a lot of my sweat, blood and tears into this place,” Smilovsky added. “It just didn't give back as much as I put in. I'm not asking to make millions, I'm not asking to ride all the favorites or all the stakes horses. But I'm happier now. I'm enjoying it more.” from Toronto Sun www.torontosun.com/2016/04/23/upset-jockey-is-bug-ging-out
