I remember Zippy and I was a fan. I even remember betting on him, much to my husband's dismay. I hope this book becomes a film! Racing’s Lovable Loser, Zippy Chippy, Subject Of New Book P{aulick Report Just in time for the Kentucky Derby prep season and in the wake of American Pharoah's Triple Crown success and California Chrome's Dubai World Cup victory comes a book on horse racing. The subject, however, is not one of racing's victorious heroes but its most famous, lovable loser, the winless Zippy Chippy, who lost 100 races from 1994-2004. The New York Post has published a lengthy feature on Zippy Chippy and the new book by Canadian humorist William Thomas. “The Legend of Zippy Chippy,” published by Random House's imprint, McClelland & Stewart, is due out April 5, almost 25 years after Zippy Chippy was born in upstate New York. Zippy Chippy started out as a racehorse but ended up a sideshow, racing against a minor league baseball player and a Standardbred at Freehold Raceway. Old Friends at Cabin Creek in New York lists Zippy Chippy as a current resident. The late Felix Monserrate, the trainer who owned Zippy Chippy for most of his career, dismissed the criticism directed toward him for continuing to run Zippy Chippy when it became apparent he was not competitive. “Say you have three children,” Monserrate was quoted as saying. “One is a lawyer, doing well. The other a doctor, very, very successful. But the third one, not so smart, so he's working at McDonald's. What do you do, ignore him? That's the one you gotta help. That's Zippy Chippy!” Read more at New York Post nypost.com/2016/03/27/the-horse-that-lost-100-races-but-won-the-heart-of-a-family/
