I like it! Woodbine Changing Direction For Racing In 2016 Paulick Report Woodbine Entertainment Group's president and chief executive officer Jim Lawson has come up with a new idea for racing at the Ontario, Canada oval. In 2016, the track will offer 25 turf races going in a clockwise direction, according to TheStar.com. European runners generally race clockwise, while every track in North America currently runs counter-clockwise. The switch is designed to increase fan and bettor excitement and participation at the track, which suffered two years ago when the “slots-at-the-racetrack” program was cancelled. Also on par for Woodbine is a partnership with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation which will attempt to continue to build breeders' confidence in the local industry via increased funding opportunities. Lawson came up with the idea because the company wants “to promote and increase our turf racing…the size of the fields are always bigger on the grass and there is a direct correlation to field size and wagering.” The plans have not been finalized yet, but with Woodbine's 133-day racing schedule, hosting 25 “about-face” races should work out to approximately one every week.
