Ben's Cat Still After Third Turf Monster Win By Myra Lewyn BloodHorse
Second and third in the Turf Monster (gr. IIIT) the last two years after winning in 2011 and 2012, Ben's Cat takes on eight runners in this year's edition as he pursues a third win in the Parx Racing event Sept. 7.
The $300,000 Turf Monster, at five furlongs, is carded as race 9 on the 10-race Labor Day card that also includes the $200,000 Greenwood Cup (gr. III) and $200,000 Turf Amazon Handicap. Post time for the Turf Monster is 4:31 p.m. EDT.
Owned, bred, and trained by Hall of Famer King Leatherbury, 9-year-old Ben's Cat is the 121-pound co-highweight along with Sharp Sensation, who at 16-1 odds in last year's race denied him a third Turf Monster win by just a neck. Ben's Cat bobbled and was steadied on the turn, losing momentum while rider Julien Pimentel struggled to regain a lost left rein, then just missed in a close finish.
In his most recent start, Ben's Cat captured the Mister Diz Stakes at Laurel Park for a sixth straight year Aug. 22 while scoring his 30th victory overall from 50 starts in a remarkable career that has seen him bankroll more than $2.4 million.
Jim and Susan Hill's Sharp Sensation exits a heartbreaking nose loss July 27 in the Lucky Coin Stakes at Saratoga Race Course, where he was caught in the final stride.
Amelia's Wild Ride, who defeated Ben's Cat to win the Pennsylvania Governor's Cup May 30 and was third in the Lucky Coin, and Tightend Touchdown, recent victor in the Parx Dash (gr. IIIT), are both assigned 120 pounds.
In the Turf Amazon also at five furlongs, Richies Party Girl will bid for her first victory in nearly a year as the 120-pound highweight. Richard Ravin and Wesley Ward's 4-year-old Any Given Saturday filly is winless in four starts since capturing the Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint Stakes last September at Kentucky Downs to cap her season. She has a second and a third this year, both going five furlongs on the Churchill Downs turf course.

How Old is My Horse in “Human Years”? Foothills Veterinary Dr. Jornigan December 24, 2013
I get this question a lot. You know horses…it’s complicated.
To estimate the age of your horse relative to a human, use the following formula: 1. First year = 12 human years 2. Second year = 7 human years 3. Next three years = 4 human years each 4. Each additional year = 2.5 human years each.
Source: S.E. Blackwell. The Senior Horse – More Than Just Basic Care In: NAVC Proceedings 2007, North American Veterinary Conference (Eds). N. Fort Myers, FL, USA.
To make things easier, see the chart below:
Horse Age in Years Human Age in Years 1 12 2 19 3 23 4 27 5 31 6 33.5 7 36 8 38.5 9 41 10 43.5 11 46 12 48.5 13 51 14 53.5 15 56 16 58.5 17 61 18 63.5 19 66 20 68.5

Well Wiz - You, despite your pleas - are BIASED! You don't like this horse and have been nasty about him from the first post on this forum - probably because we girls LOVE him! Maybe he's lost a little but he has won that race TWICE so he belonged there.
This was his 7th start as a 9 yr old. The winner was making his 2nd start as a 4 yr old. It also was ghastly hot today and humid. So put a sock in it and just leave Ben alone. He deserves respect. And he's beaten the very close 2nd place horse before (and many of the others). No one wins them all.
He always tries and was closing in the end. PARX isn't his fave track based on past results. I think it was Mack who mentioned the BC
Pure Sensation Wins Turf Monster Thriller By Myra Lewyn BloodHorse
Pure Sensation Wins Turf Monster Thriller Pure Sensation and Mongolian Saturday battled throughout the $300,000 Turf Monster Handicap, with Pure Sensation narrowly prevailing in a pulsating finish Sept. 7 at Parx Racing. Watch Replay
The official margin of victory for Patricia Generazio's homebred Pure Sensation, the 2-1 favorite, was a nose. Mongolian Saturday was one length clear of third-place finisher Sharp Sensation.
Venerable 9-year-old gelding Ben's Cat was denied a third win in the race, finishing fifth after racing in sixth early, then splitting horses in the stretch to rally before weakening.
With Kendrick Carmouche riding for Christophe Clement, Pure Sensation was timed in :55.81 for the five furlongs on firm turf.
The 4-year-old Florida-bred Zensational gelding improved to 4-4-2 from 13 career starts, which includes the listed Quick Call Stakes last summer at Saratoga Race Course, and lifetime earnings of $461,345. In his only other start this year, he won an optional claiming race July 31 at Saratoga after more than eight months off.
Pure Sensation is out of multiple stakes winner Pure Disco, by Disco Rico.
Richies Sweetheart launched out the gate first and ran on unchallenged to win the $300,000 Turf Amazon Handicap by two lengths. The Illinois-bred Bring the Heat filly finished five furlongs in :56.36, scoring for the fourth time in six starts this year while notching her second stakes victory.
Joya Real outfinished Inspired by Grace for second in the 10-horse field.
Larry Rivelli trains the winner, whom he co-bred and co-owns with Richard Ravin and campaigns along with Patricia's Hope LLC. She was produced by the Officer mare Make an Offer.

I'm ready to go to sleep because tomorrow Evelyn and I are going to the outlet mall in Lancaster which is about an hour away, but I wanted to tell Wiz he is now grounded for a week. No TV. No brownies!!
And Wiz - Timonium is really fun. We had a wonderful, reasonably priced lunch today. Cait and I hit a $280 exacta for $5 (we each got back over $300 so I will have fun tomorrow!). And yes - that was more fun than bingo LOL
Ben's Cat is a thoroughbred. He has an excellent record, won a lot of money and looks great for his age. Wish I could say the same!!!

You aren't funny when you denigrate a grand horse. That's "hateful".

LOL never a dull moment when you are posting.
And BTW speaking of great horses, my Lea almost won the Gr. 1 WO mile today losing by about a neck, showing how versatile a horse he is running good on any surface at any distance. I picked him before he was a well known horse in the 2014 Donn at GP when I nailed the exacta ice cold with him and Will Take Charge (this is on record on this site with my post), and had him in his previous race the Hal's Hope where he was even more of an unknown. Not like some people I know who are all over a horse after they win a big race. lol.

AND HOW MANY RACES HAS HE WON SINCE YOU DECLARED HIM THE BEST HORSE IN THE COUNTRY LAST YEAR AFTER THE DONN? WHAT YOU DID OR DIDNT DO IN THE HALS HOPE IS KNOWN ONLY TO YOU. ALL I KNOW IS YOU PICKED YOUR ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR WINNER AND THEN DECLARED HIM THE NEXT COMING OF MAN O WAR, LIKE YOU DO WITH EVERY OTHER HORSE THAT RUNS ONE GOOD RACE. YOUR LAST SENTANCE IS A TOTAL F*ING JOKE COMING FROM YOU. EXACTLY WHO HAVE I DONE THAT WITH? NAME ONE HORSE?
