#9 Di Giorgio #5 Marchman
I am looking for one of these two longshots to run a big race and maybe win at a nice price. I think they came out of the toughest last race. Marchman was running against far better horses (except for Obviously) in the east consistently on the pace and I think is more class horse than the likes of Talco, Bal a Bali, Pure Tactics, Winning Prize, etc., who came out of the same last race. Those horses have only been beating each other and at good but not extremely impressive race times for 1 mile turf.
Di Gorgio had very good even race in last with Marchman and I would say a better race than Marchman and is good sign for stretch out - so if Marchman is the class of race (except for Obviously) then Di Giorgio has a shot too. He ran in very even 6 1/2F turf first time in the US last year that was run in 1:11/3 fastest downhill sprint by any here and very even and tight 2 off all the way around. Then followed up with 1 mile turf in 1:32/1 with 97 speed rating which was a super race effort - then one more race before laid up. Then two back in comeback race came close to beating Appealing Tale who is much better horse than anything in this race I think by far.
I am going against Obviously the obvious horse also with some class on the comeback race - this is his prep for the BC Mile and he will have his hands full all the way around battling with Jimmy Bouncer. Besides a lot of his previous races where he won big were against relatively unknowns so he is not that great a horse but then you got to respect the 1:32/1:33 and change consistent race times for 1 mile turf.
I think Wilkinson also has a shot coming out of that same race with the others but that was his first race off the long layoff so should improve.
Also think Avanzare has a lot of class and could win it all beating Za Approval and Home Run Kitten before layoff.
Picks: 9-5-6-10-11
