interesting - of course, imo, they should lol altho' no help at the windows or in the challenge Connections Of Magna Light Plan Appeal Of Sanford DQ PR The connections of Magna Light plan to appeal the stewards’ decision to disqualify the colt from first place in Saturday’s Grade 3 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga. According to a report in the Daily Racing Form, Michael Dubb, who heads the ownership group of Magna Light, plans on filing an appeal. Dubb has until the end of business Monday to file with the New York State Gaming Commission. Magna Light won the Sanford by three-quarters of a length, but was disqualified by the stewards after he drifted out under jockey Jose Ortiz’s left-handed whip. He then veered back in toward Percolator, who finished third, a half-length behind second-place finisher Uncle Vinny. “I thought their decision was the wrong decision. Virtually everybody in the racetrack could see it was the wrong decision,” Dubb told the DRF. “I plan to use every source of appeal I can to try and get it reversed.” here's the video - oh yeah - he comes out BUT he was clear - the 10 wasn't affected and wouldn't have won anyway www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/93183/uncle-vinny-placed-first-in-sanford-stakes

and another awarded to pletcher - altho' this one was the right call
Curalina Gets CCA Oaks After 'Chatterbox' DQ By Jeremy Balan Bloodhorse
Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners' Curalina secured her second straight grade I victory July 26, but this one came via disqualification in the $300,000 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga Race Course.
After it appeared pacesetter I'm a Chatterbox was pulling away in the stretch with Florent Geroux, Curalina found more and re-rallied to the outside, but could not get past I'm a Chatterbox, who held on by a nose at the wire.
But after reviewing replays, Saratoga stewards ruled I'm a Chatterbox came into Curalina's path deep in the stretch and disqualified the top finisher to second, installing the Todd Pletcher-trained Curalina as the winner.
"He took her out and she bumped me, and my horse switched to the left lead," said Curalina's jockey, John Velazquez. "Now I'm unbalanced, and then I had to get after her to get her back in, and I just missed the wire. I knew two jumps before the wire, I was going to get him. When she got bumped and went to her left lead, she lost her balance, I lost my balance. I had to get back on her and just missed it. No doubt in my mind, I was going to get her."
"In this particular case, our filly was knocked off stride in a critical point in the race and got beat a couple inches," Pletcher added. "In my eyes, it probably made the difference. I'm sure there are other people that feel differently, but based on what Johnny said, just watching it there, I would have to agree."
I'm a Chatterbox, sent immediately from the outside post, set fractions of :23.54, :46.99, and 1:11.27 through six furlongs, with Curalina tracking just off the pace. I'm a Chatterbox hit a mile in 1:36.72 and finished the 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.74.
"I thought she ran very well coming off a long layoff like that," trainer Larry Jones said of his filly, who last raced third in Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) May 1. "She took a little time off and was good to go. We set very legitimate fractions and still to hold on, I'm thrilled with the horse. The jock rode a great race, he didn't do anything to cause it. He stuck with the right hand the whole way. She kind of jumped the tracks where the gate comes across, but you need to get the horse back over somehow. That's just the way it goes."
Curalina, a daughter of Curlin , paid $3.90, $2.60, and $2.10 across the board. I'm a Chatterbox brought $3.40 and $2.60, while hard-closing Include Betty, two lengths back, brought $3.20 to show for her third-place finish.
Include Betty, who became a winner at the top level with a victory in the Mother Goose Stakes (gr. I) last time out June 27 at Belmont Park, sat in the back in the field seven—16 1/2 lengths behind after the first half-mile—before flying late to capture third.
"It was a perfect trip—ideal trip," Include Betty's jockey, Drayden Van Dyke said. "The fillies in front obviously never stopped running. We had a beautiful trip. She tries every time. She's such a sweet filly and she gives 100% every time. Running third in one of these races is big. She hits the board every time."
Danette closed for fourth, followed by Chide, Keen Pauline, and Conquest Eclipse, to complete the order of finish. Wonder Gal was scratched.
Bred in Kentucky by CASA Farms I, out of the Graeme Hall mare Whatdreamsrmadeof, Curalina has $666,800 in earnings with a 4-1-0 record from five starts. She's won four straight races, including back-to-back grade I scores in the Coaching Club American Oaks and the Acorn Stakes at Belmont June 6.

I just watched the video and he was clear by 1 1/2 to 2 lengths when he VEERED out, he did not impede any horse and did not contact any horse, I see no reason for the DQ.

The horse did not impede any other horse in the race nor did the next two horses break stride whatsoever. That was totally a bad call to take him down. If I had some tickets on him I would be very upset.

The DQ helped me in the Challenge and IRT but looking at the race, he should not have been DQ'ed.

Higgins to become first female steward at Saratoga By NYRA Press Office
On Monday at Saratoga Race Course, Erinn Higgins will become the first female steward at Saratoga, serving as alternate state steward for the New York State Gaming Commission under Steve Lewandowski.
Higgins, 27, comes to the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) via Finger Lakes, where she began her stewarding career, and has previously served as steward at Belmont Park, where she became the first female steward to serve in a NYRA stand.
The opportunity to work at Saratoga is not only a dream come true for Higgins, but a homecoming, as she was raised in the area.
"I'm excited; Saratoga is my hometown," said Higgins. "It will be a different experience as far as the types of horses and races I'm accustomed to, and I'll be exposed to different things that come up. I'm looking forward to it."
Although she has only been a steward since 2013, Higgins' racetrack experience is vast. Her mother, an exercise rider, and her father, a trainer, met in Saratoga, and she grew up on the backstretch. Higgins has worked for the late Hall of Fame trainer, Allen Jerkens, and served as assistant to her father, as well as worked for a veterinary practice for several summers.
Higgins' exposure to different aspects of the industry was instrumental in leading her to stewardship.
"I've always known I wanted to work in horse racing but I wasn't sure in what capacity," said Higgins. "I knew I didn't want to train or work as a vet, so I wanted to explore things I wasn't as familiar with. An opening came up for an assistant steward at Finger Lakes, so I took a shot and applied. I fell in love with the job."
Following her first year at Finger Lakes, Higgins' path was cemented when she received her accreditation by completing the Racing Officials Accreditation Program at the University of Louisville. Last fall, she was asked to temporarily fill in at Belmont.
Higgins, who plans to return to Finger Lakes at the conclusion of the meet, says she is humbled by the opportunity to work in her hometown, surrounded by family, for historic Saratoga's 147th meet.
"It's all happened so quickly," she said. "I am so fortunate things have worked out as they have."

NYRA has The Stewards Corner (every track should!)
But this explanation makes no sense. The 10 NEVER steadied and in the final strides he was passed by the 11 - easily as he was fading. Did they not see the head-on?
Race Decisions - July 25, 2015
Race 9: Steward's Inquiry and Jockey's Objection: Kendrick Carmouche, the rider of # 10 Percolator, lodged an objection against the winner, # 4 Magna Light, for alleged interference in stretch. # 4 Magna Light racing on the lead shifts out several paths after passing the 1/8 pole. # 10 steadies briefly though # 4 is clear when crossing. # 4 then drifts back down toward the the # 10 in the final strides causing # 4 to steady. (HUH? They must have the wrong #'s the 4 "steadied"? So what?))
# 4 finishes third, beaten a half-length for second. (# 10 in the final strides causing # 4 to steady.
After reviewing the race videos and speaking with the riders involved, # 4 is disqualified from first and placed third, behind # 10.
After reviewing the race videos and speaking with the riders involved, # 4 is disqualified from first and placed third, behind # 10.
The official revised order of finish is 11-10-4-1. § 4035.2. Foul riding penalized.
(a) When clear, a horse may be taken to any part of the course provided that crossing or weaving in front of contenders may constitute interference or intimidation for which the offender may be disciplined.
(b) A horse crossing another may be disqualified, if in the judgment of the stewards, it interferes with, impedes or intimidates another horse, or the foul altered the finish of the race, regardless of whether the foul was accidental, willful, or the result of careless riding. The stewards may also take into consideration mitigating factors, such as whether the impeded horse was partly at fault or the crossing was wholly caused by the fault of some other horse or jockey.
