Eskenformoney returns in competitive Mother Goose
Brisnet
Saturday's Mother Goose S. (G1) at Belmont Park drew a competitive field of 10 sophomore fillies going 1 1/16 miles, and the main track contest will feature the return of Eskenformoney (Eskendereya).
That Todd Pletcher trainee took some time to break her maiden, but finally got the job done by 9 3/4 lengths on December 10, and opened her three-year-old campaign with a stylish 3 3/4-length score against allowance/optional claimers one month later. Eskenformoney tackled stakes foes next and reputed herself well when just a half-length back in third in the Davona Dale S. (G2) and runner-up in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2).
The dark bay miss wasn't given much of a chance by the betting public in the May 1 Kentucky Oaks (G1), sent off at 21-1, and ran to those odds when finishing an uncharacteristic 10th.
Eskenformoney was shipped to Saratoga not long after and has posted four moves to ready for the Mother Goose. Javier Castellano, aboard the Kentucky-bred lass all year, retains the mount.
Among those lining up against Eskenformoney are Include Betty (Include), Wonder Gal (Tiz Wonderful) and Danessa Deluxe (Summer Bird).
Include Betty has an advantage over Eskenformoney, who is seeking her first stakes victory in the Mother Goose. Trained by Tom Proctor, Include Betty already owns a pair of stakes wins in the Suncoast S. in her second start of the year and Fantasy S. (G3). The chestnut filly followed an eighth in the Kentucky Oaks with a rallying second in the Black-Eyed Susan S. (G2) last out on May 15 at Pimlico. Drayden Van Dyke was aboard for that latter contest and has the call once again in the Mother Goose.
Wonder Gal actually took her maiden debut in the Lynbrook S. at Belmont last July 6, and boasts a 1-1-1 mark from three total starts at the track thus far. Her second came in the Frizette S. (G1), which was sandwiched between third-placings in Saratoga's Adirondack S. (G2) and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Santa Anita Park.
The Leah Gyarmati pupil has competed just twice this year, finishing fourth in the Gazelle S. (G2) and, most recently, just missing by a length when third in the Acorn S. (G1) at Belmont three weeks ago. Wonder Gal could easily improve all the way into the winner's circle in this spot under Rajiv Maragh.
Danessa Deluxe also shows just two starts this season. After beginning her career with trainer Antonio Sano, for whom she ran fourth in the Delta Downs Princess (G3) last November, the chestnut miss was transferred to conditioner Jorge Navarro and filled the third spot in the Gulfstream Park Oaks to kick off 2015 in her new barn. She returned from a two-month break last out to be fourth in the Black-Eyed Susan, and gets a rider switch to Manuel Franco for the Mother Goose.
Also entered Saturday are Grade 2-placed stakes winner Money'soncharlotte (Mizzen Mast), last seen finishing 13th in the Kentucky Oaks; Embellish the Lace (Super Saver), who captured her last two by a combined 23 lengths; and undefeated Munasara (Bernardini
