Drosselmeyer's first winner dances in at Pimlico Brisnt
Daniela Lynch's Find Joy opened her career with a 4 1/2-length maiden romp at Pimlico Thursday, becoming the first winner sired by 2010 Belmont S. (G1) and 2011 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) star Drosselmeyer (Distorted Humor).
Bred by Eico Stable in Kentucky, Find Joy went to her current connections for $55,000 as a two-year-old in training at OBS in April. The bay was produced by the winning Southern Halo mare Hurricane Hannah, herself a half-sister to Grade 2 victress Lovely Lil (Tiznow). Find Joy's second dam, How About Now (Pentelicus), captured the 1996 Schuylerville (G2).
The Cathal Lynch-trained Find Joy was sent off as the 5-2 second choice in the 4TH race. Flashing good early speed for John Bisono, she forced the pace set by 7-5 favorite Wallflower (Discreet Cat) through an opening quarter in :22 4/5 on the fast track. Find Joy then surged clear, getting the half-mile in :46 3/5 and finishing the 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight in :53 1/5.
Drosselmeyer amassed $3,728,170 in earnings from a record of 16-5-5-2. Aside from his signature victories in the nation's oldest classic, and later in the richest U.S. race, the chestnut landed the 2011 One Count S. at Belmont. He also placed in that season's Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) and Brooklyn H. (G2), as well as in the 2010 Dwyer (G2) and Louisiana Derby (G2).
Out of multiple Grade 1 heroine Golden Ballet (Moscow Ballet), Drosselmeyer is a half-brother to Grade 1-placed stakes victress Stage Luck (Unbridled's Song).
Campaigned throughout his career by WinStar Farm, Drosselmeyer stands at the Versailles, Kentucky, nursery for $15,000, stands and nurses.
