Matt Hegarty DRF.com has reported that the all source handle on the Belmont Stakes fell 10.5 % compare to last years record setting handle when CC went for the TC. Haven't seen any figures for the whole day yet.

The ratings were down also except for NY where I guess the fans who couldn't get tickets (or were there last year!) watched on TV LOL
Belmont Overnight Rating Dips a Bit From 2014 Bloodhorse
The overnight television rating for the June 6 Belmont Stakes presented by DraftKings (gr. I), which produced the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years in American Pharoah, was down slightly from last year, according to The Nielsen Company.
The race portion of the broadcast from 6:15-7:15 p.m. EDT on NBC generated an overnight rating and share of 12.3/27, down from 12.9 last year when California Chrome failed in his bid for the Triple Crown. NBC reported, however, that 2014-15 mark the first time the Belmont has produced successive overnight ratings in excess of 12.
This year's race at Belmont Park posted the highest metered market rating for a Saturday afternoon sporting event since NBC's telecast of the Ravens-Patriots AFC divisional playoff game Jan. 10 of this year.
The New York market, the home of the Belmont Stakes, registered a 16.6 rating/36 share, up 5% from last year's Belmont (15.8/37) and the second-highest Belmont in the market behind only Smarty Jones' Triple Crown attempt in 2004 (20.5/38).

Ratings down slightly from the HIGHEST EVER the previous year. Big whoops.
As for the handle, yes, at $135M it was down from last year, which again was the record highest. But it still was the second highest in history and was 40 to 55 MILLION dollars higher than the three previous years (47, 40, 55M)
I guess if Cuomo wasn't frittering his time away doing what a GOVERNOR does, maybe handle would have been higher.

Spin spin spin. Maybe it might have been a 3 horse 1st race and 2 6 horse fields where NYRA didn't allow show betting. But what do I know. Keep plugging Alan we still like you.

I'll admit, I didn't bet all the races as I usually do. I would have thought a lot of people bought Am P tickets as memorabilia?

There wouldn't have been $13M bet on those show pools. Last year was a very exceptional year (THANKS NYRA!!!!), this year was just a very good year - 2nd highest handle in history (THANKS NYRA!!!!). Spin? Well, if there's a possibility of a negative spin, I know where to look.

Enough already. Differing opinions don't need to lead to snotty arguments!

There were mostly uncashed win tickets on Am P.
95% of $2 Belmont Stakes Win Tickets Uncashed By Ron Mitchell Bloodhorse
The New York Racing Association said June 8 that more than 95% of the $2 win tickets sold at Belmont Park and Aqueduct Racetrack on American Pharoah to win the Belmont Stakes presented by DraftKings (gr. I) have not been cashed.
NYRA said there were 94,128 individual paper $2 tickets sold on the Triple Crown winner through the track's AmTote system and that as of Monday, only 3,891 had been cashed for a payoff of $3.50 each.
The 90,237 tickets that remain uncashed are apparently being saved as souvenirs of the historic event in which the colt became the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.
The deadline to cash the winning tickets is March 31, 2016, or the money is returned to the state.
Of the total $81,681,147 wagered on the Belmont Stakes from all sources, more than $6.6 million was wagered on-track.

don't wanna get into this really but why thank the nyra for handle last year? makes no sense - i think it wss because of the intense "fever" with CChrome - especially after the disappointment with I'll Have Another - prolly a lot of souvenir tickets found their way to the trash! or maybe people just bet because they couldn't eat or drink lol
