At first I thought this was rather sexist. But it is Black Eyed Susan day and they're giving a seminar. I still hate the name!
Pimlico’s $30,000 Female Handicapper Challenge On Black-Eyed Susan Car PR
A new event has been added to the Black-Eyed Susan Day line-up at Pimlico on Friday, May 15, the $30,000 “Bet Like A Girl” All-Female Handicapper Challenge & Seminar, featuring top picks and insider information from the country’s finest female horseplayers.
Participating are: Christina Bossinakis, Caton Bredar, Donna Brothers, Jill Byrne, Jeannine Edwards, Gabby Gaudet, and Maggie Wolfendale.
The handicappers each receive a $1,000 mythical bankroll to bet races 1-10 on the Black-Eyed Susan Day card. Only win and place wagers are allowed, and at least one bet is required on each race 1-10.
The female handicappers will provide Pimlico officials with their mythical wagers by Monday at 5 p.m. for inclusion in the official Black-Eyed Susan Day souvenir program
On Black-Eyed Susan Day, after participating in an autograph session (10-11 a.m., first-floor grandstand), the handicappers will host a brief seminar, giving fans their picks for the Black-Eyed Susan, Pimlico Special, and Preakness races.

Bossinakis Wins Black-Eyed Susan Day Female Handicapper Challenge Paulick
Saving her biggest bet for last, Christina Bossinakis took Friday’s $30,000 “Bet Like a Girl” female handicapper challenge on the Black-Eyed Susan Day program at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
Bossinakis, recently named Thoroughbred Owner Services Director for the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association’s Owners Concierge Program, used $400 from her mythical bankroll of $1,000 to place a win bet on favored Stopchargingmaria in the Allaire DuPont Distaff stakes, the 10th and final leg of the contest. Stopchargingmaria paid $3.20 to win, giving Bossinakis just enough to defeat Pimlico’s in-house handicapper Gabby Gaudet, who finished second.
Bossinakis had three other winning selections earlier in the contest: a $25 win bet on Conscience, $3.80 winner of the third race; a $200 win bet on Miss Temple City, $4.40 winner of the fifth race, the Hilltop Stakes; and a $30 win bet on Irish Jasper, $12 winner of the eighth race, the Miss Preakness Stakes. Her total returns were $962.50, compared to $782.60 for Gaudet.
Prior to accepting the position at TOBA, Bossinakis served as in-house handicapper with Ron Nicoletti at Gulfstream Park and handicapped Monmouth Park for TVG for several years. First-place in the contest was worth $10,000.
Gaudet won $8,000 for finishing second. She was followed by Jill Byrne ($5,000 in prize money), Donna Brothers ($3,000), Maggie Wolfendale ($2,000), Jeannine Edwards ($1,000), and Caton Bredar ($1,000).

any contest where the winner ends up with less money then they started with should be considered a draw and everyone loses. yeah she did have one winner which did pay 5/1 but if you notice only played 3% of her bankroll on that horse but bet 40% and 20% of her bankroll on a 3/5 and 6/5 shot. chalk eaters delight!

lolol!! if there is more to the sport then gambling, which im not even arguing because i do believe there is more to it then gambling but just nothing as important as the gambling, then you picked a very bad example to try to make that case. it was a contest about gambling, with the winner determind by who did it best! if you dont care about the actual betting, why have the contest in the first place? why not have a fricking bake sale or a car wash to raise money for charity? actually, was this even for charity or was it a regular entry fee- winner takes home the actual cash contest? either way, if these women (or men if they had entered) didnt want to be evaluated based on their gambling, then they were in the wrong contest.
i swear cait, do you just go out of your way to be against the whole idea of what holds the sport together? i find it hillarious how if someone says anything to contrary of the animals and safety come first that you bite their head off, but you feel as if bad mouthing the people who are in it for the money and gambling aspect of it is completely justifiable.

FTR - I didn't mention horse's health or safety nor did i bring gambling into the thread - this was a pr event - it was tied to the seminar the INVITED entrants held (no men invited), it was part of BES day - traditionally pitched as ladies day - it was for fun - do you remember "fun"?
furthermore, you've always said slots are funding purses (yes - not in your mythical mecca of racing but then how do you think magna has $ to fund SA?)- we agree that in the long run that's probably not going to be good - know gamblers think they rule the sports world - BUT - this is not the thread for that convo
truly a mystery why you can't accept this for what it was without disparaging the FUN contest - it was a fun event on a day that pitched events geared to women (oh - that's probably why lol)

another remark made to make me look like a sexist which i am not, by the biggest sexist on the planet.
i have made no disparaging remarks about the contest, or the entrants based on their sex. only the results, which were piss poor, and the way they played the contest, which was even worse.

Wiz - am sorry but your comments about Chantal and others, and your take on this contest on Ladies Day maybe do lead some to think you are perhaps a bit sexist!

WELL YOU KNOW WHAT I THINK IS SEXIST? NOT WHEN YOU TREAT BOTH MEN AND WOMEN EQUAL, WHETHER THAT IS GOOD OR BAD, AND DONT MAKE IT A POINT TO CLARIFY WHICH ONE YOU ARE ROOTING FOR MORE TO SUCCEED THAT IS WHAT BOTH CAITAND YOU DO. YOU ADMIT TO IT WITH YOUR COMMENTS LIKE.................... YA KNOW WHAT, IM NOT EVEN GOING TO BOTHER. EVERYONE ELSE ON HERE CAN SEE WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT, I DO BELIEVE. I GUESS NOT MAKING IT A POINT TO ROOT MORE FOR WOMEN THEN MEN MAKES YOU SEXIST. I DONT GIVE A SHIT WHO WAS IN THE CONTEST, MEN OR WOMEN. I DONT GIVE A SHIT IF IT WAS FOR CHARITY OR NOT WHEN IT COMES TO MY STATEMENTS. THE RESULTS OF THIS CONTEST SHOWED THAT THESE PARTICIPANTS DID A SHITTY JOB AND WAGERED POORLY AND IN THE OPPOSITE WAY OF MOST ANY SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT PLAYER WOULD HAVE DONE. NOW WHETHER OR NOT THOSE PARTICIPANTS WERE WOMEN, MEN, CHILDREN, BLACK, WHITE, OR HOBBITS HAS NO BEARING ON THAT TO ANYONE OTHER THEN YOU TWO. BUT YET IM THE SEXIST SOMEHOW? POY CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK FOR SURE HERE.

Damn Wiz - Chill! NBD - Silly thing really wasn't about serious betting. Think they had to bet the entire card and there were several price horses and large fields (incl Keen Pauline). Doubt anyone had a stellar day playing WPS!

YOUR RIGHT JON. NO BIG DEAL. BUT YET I HAVE TO ONCE AGAIN BE TRIED TO MAKE A FOOL OF OR A NON CARING PERSON BECAUSE OF MY VIEW ON IT. WHY IS THAT? IF ITS NO BIG DEAL, SHOULDNT IT BE NO BIG DEAL FOR ALL? ALL I DID WAS SAY THE RESULTS WERE A JOKE AND THE CONTESTANTS PLAYED IT POORLY AND DID A BAD JOB. NO BIG DEAL ON THE RESPONSE, RIGHT? WELL I GUESS NOT, ACCORDING TO SOME.
