i swear i just watched the first race from pimlico and all i could see as the horses were going down the backstretch were broken down cars and plastic port a pottys lined up the entire length of the backstrecth. then as they hit the turn you see either a freeway or expressway within arms reach of the horses. no it doesnt look like the prison from walking dead from these angles. instead it looks like a swap meet! someone said something about the track being in a bad area but still being picturesque and beautiful? not from what the public eye can see, i can tell you that much. they must do a lot of work preakness week to make the place even remotely presentable to the public.

Oh Wiz! I like the track. It's just a road - not an expressway for heavens sakes. The neighborhood is depressing but like a lot of city neighborhoods, you can see where there were once some grand homes. It's sad how these neighborhoods deteriorate.
The other stuff? They're getting ready for the Preakness. The cars probably belong to those workers setting up the infield - including the port-a-potties.
Are you just being "Nancy's Bad Boy"? (If we ever own another horse, I want to name it that LOL)
Why are you watching Pimlico anyway? Just so you can be your usual bad self with crappy comments?!!

That's really funny. It is an inner city track, but except for the infield (which does look like a prison exercize yard) it's not all that bad. What you're probably seeing beyond the fence down the backstretch is the stable area and all the vans for horses that shipped in for Friday and Saturday - there are going to be about 250 horses running next weekend, very few stabled at Pimlico. That road you see actually Northern Parkway, a boulevard-type road and is pretty nice, relatively speaking. I haven't been there in about six or seven years, back then everyone (except Stronach) agreed that it was a pretty crappy facility - but it's the fourth or fifth oldest track in the country. It's too bad they had to ruin the infield for only two days a year. Laurel, not far away, is probably 20 times nicer than Pimlico.

I've been there few times. I win there - I like it!! The people are really nice. Most importantly, both tracks have been redone and all the horsemen love them. I was back at the barns George and there are a lot of horses stabled there. You two just like to criticize! The history is amazing.
I've been to Laurel too and it's very pretty but it has acres and acres and is not in the city.

I've been to Laurel too and it's very pretty but it has acres and acres and is not in the city. I'm not criticizing. In fact, I was thinking as I typed it that Pimlico isn't in a neighborhood much different than Churchill Downs or the Fair Grounds. Neighborhoods never bothered me - Aqueduct is in a worse area than any of those, and I never even felt nervous going to Hollywood Park. The worst thing about the place is the infield - it's probably the ugliest in the country. But the horses don't run on the infield. Unfortunately, even though he's made some improvements, Pimlico is the step child of the organization, and Stronach has whittled the meet down to just a shadow of what it used to be. When I lived in New Jersey, I used to drive down there three or four times each summer. Back then the meet lasted from early May (as it does now) up to the Timonium meet.

They have no real property around the track. I think the infield is used for concerts and events - like the charitable functions for thoroughbred adoptions.

Many changes began in 2010 - including banning the port a potty races LOL Remembering the toilet run, a lost tradition of the Preakness By Matt Ufford SB Nation The Pimlico infield used to be a lawless madhouse governed by beer missiles, where sleeveless young drunks braved one of sports' most dangerous gauntlets. Let us all remember the running of the toilets. Remember no one is clicking below but you. If it's offensive to you, ignore it! This was a Preakness infield tradition for many years. AT LEAST THEN THE PLACE LOOKED INTERESTING AND THE TOILETS WERE BEING USED FOR SOMETHING. NOT JUST SITTING AROUND BEING AN EYE SORE. NEVER DOUBTED THE HISTORY, BUT THE PLACE STINKS NOW.

I swear I just watched a race from SA and all I could see was a picturesque and beautiful setting. down the backstretch all you could see were a few less than or perhaps ordinary cheap horses. then as they hit the far turn you see the ones in the back trying to move but they can't make any ground on a speedway. a racetrack? not from what the public eye can see, i can tell you that much. it looks more like a lovely place for a picnic. they must do a lot of work to get horses.

yup, less and ordiary cheap horses............... that keep winning the most prestigous and important races in america year after year.
keep trying cait. your arguements doesnt hold water. anyone with horse racing knowledge knows that trying to compare the racing and/or horse quality of pimplico to that of santa anita is assinine.

comprehend what you type cait.
those cheap horses win the most prestigous races everywhere, not just in ca.. who has won the derby 3 of the last 4 years? most of the major preps? the breeders cup classic? they ship and still dominate the major races and stay home and win them too.
