DO thoro tracks "export" to France? I know we can bet French racing.
Yonkers Export Experiment Yields Good Results By Tom LaMarra Bloodhorse
The first of six programs Yonkers Raceway is sending to France for wagering purposes generated solid pari-mutuel handle and could be used to spark similar racing industry endeavors.
The New York harness track began the experiment Nov. 9 and will do so for the next five Sundays through the end of its 2014 meet. The programs start at about 11:15 a.m. EST, which means it is 5:15 p.m. in France.
Yonkers scheduled a 12-race Nov. 9 card, with the first five races, all for trotters, exported to France. Track officials said the five races, offered for wagering in separate pools, generated total betting of about 1.4 million Euros, or about $1.75 million in U.S. dollars.
To appeal to players in France, the races were 1 1/4 miles in distance rather than the standard one mile, and the customary eight-horse fields on the half-mile track were replaced with fields of 10-12 trotters. The last race exported to France went off at 7:12 p.m. Paris time.
The North American pools for the 12-race card totaled $492,926, said Yonkers officials who noted the figure is good considering the morning start time and a limited menu of exotic wagering on the early races sent to France.
