Wild Again won the race outright - Gate Dancer was disqualified from second. I agree, Gate Dancer shouldn't have been disqualified.
There was also a disqualification in the very first Breeders' Cup race earlier in the same afternoon - Fran's Valentine won the race but was placed 10th.
And Da Hoss won the Breeders' Cup Mile (now the Turf Mile?) in 1996. That was his last race until almost two years later. His next race was an allowance race at Colonial Downs in October 1998 and a few weeks later won the Breeders' Cup Mile in 1998. He went almost 24 months without a race and had that one race between his two BC wins.

What BC Race has had the most back-2-back winners? I think it's the Breeders' Cup Mile - offhand I can remember Lure winning it twice and Goldikova winning three consecutive races and Wise Dan won the last two.

That would have been a HUGE exacta and trifecta if Fran's Valentine hadn't been disqualified - the first three winners would have been 75-1, 22-1, and 75-1.
BUT..............there was only WPS betting on the race!
