MAGICIAN TO ASHFORD AFTER BC TDN
Last year’s GI Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Magician (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}--Absolutelyfabulous {Ire}, by Mozart {Ire}) will retire to Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky after his title-defending run Saturday. The 4-year-old, campaigned by Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs. John Magnier with trainer Aidan O’Brien, is also a Classic winner, having taken the one-mile G1 Irish 2000 Guineas last May. Magician has also recorded Group 3 victories over 10 and 10 1/2 furlongs, and was second in this year’s G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup and G1 Prince of Wales’s S. Magician was last seen finishing second in the GI Arlington Million. Magician hails from the highly productive family of dual Guineas and four-time Group 1 winner Henrythenavigator, himself a successful young sire.
“Magician is a very, very good-looking horse who possesses a blistering turn of foot,” said Ashford’s Director of Sales Charlie O’Connor. “Along with Frankel he’s one of only three colts by Galileo to win a Classic over a mile, so he’s a rare commodity.”
