Stevens accepts Breeders' Cup mount on Sivoliere DRF
Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens will make his comeback from a summertime knee operation in time for the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita next weekend. Stevens has been booked to ride Sivoliere in the $1 million BC Juvenile Fillies Turf over a mile on Oct. 31 for owner Martin Schwartz and trainer Chad Brown. Stevens, 51, has not ridden since July 6 at Monmouth Park. He underwent knee replacement surgery that month. There was concern that the injury could lead to the end of his career, but Stevens resumed working horses earlier this month at Santa Anita.

I think when all is said and done he'll have more comebacks than Larry King had wives (currently at seven with eight marriages)!

let me be clear on this. i have bashed gary before (almost got beaten up by him when i was a kid), and i have lauded him as well. when he first came back from his retirement i thought there was no way he would be relevant, but he was awesome. head and shoulders better then the younger jockeys when it came to knowing what to do and when to do it. thge only question was his body. would it hold up? it did for a while, a year or so, and then you could see the difference as he started wearing down again. having said that, im not counting him out of anything, and if he is going to be succesful, im sure it will be rigth off the bat. just like an old sore horse, the best time to bet them is the first or second start off the layoff. they only have so much left to give in their old bones and the fresher and mor rested they are the better they will be. i dont know the form on this horse, but if she has any run at all, im sure gary will get it out of her and be in the right position when it matters.
