Louisville-based Churchill Downs Inc., which has had a run of bad publicity this year, is adding a position to improving the casino and racing company's image in the racing industry.
The job is called the executive director of racing, tasked with focusing on and improving Churchill's "commitment to the U.S. thoroughbred racing and breeding industry."
While many duties are spelled out, the description doesn't put the person in charge of any of Churchill's tracks.
One duty is "identifying and championing CDI changes that enhance the racing and breeding industry and the success of Kentucky Oaks and Derby Week, TwinSpires.com and CDI's racetracks."
Other duties include working with Churchill executives on positions and policies regarding racing and breeding, advocating for issues and policies important to the company, acting as a liaison between the company and the racing and breeding industries and representing Churchill on industry boards and at industry events.
Also, the posting says the person will work with public relations employees "to increase customer and racing and breeding industry recognition of the positive contributions made by CDI to the racing and breeding industry."
The company formerly had a corporate-level vice president of racing position that was eliminated when Donnie Richardson left the company two years ago.
