Will he do as well without bug? Thoroughbred jockey Vinnie Bednar had a night to remember on Friday at Los Alamitos. The young pilot won the opening race of the program aboard Julian Rios’ Lonely Street – a victory that ended his apprenticeship as it was his 40th career victory. As memorable as that win had to be for Bednar aboard the 13-1 longshot Lonely Street, the jockey did not stop there. Two races later, Bednar, now riding as a journeyman, led nearly the entire way en route to a 3 ¼ length victory aboard Loeb Family Living Trust’s Devoted Shark in the 4 ½ furlong event. Bednar finished the evening with a riding triple, as he guided Stanley Watkins’ Janetor to an impressive wire-to-wire victory in the fifth race. Sent off at even money, Janetor won the 4 ½ furlong event by 2 ¼ lengths. Bednar is currently the second leading Thoroughbred rider this season with 15 victories at Los Alamitos. Guce, who is still recovering from a riding injury, tops the standings with 25 wins. *** www.losalamitos.com/News.aspx?id=1625
