She is the true Queen of racing. I hope her foal is healthy and she proves to be a great mom.
Mighty mare Black Caviar back in headlines as racing fraternity waits on arrival of her first foal By: Daryl Timms From: Herald Sun
IT’S the equine equivalent to the birth of Prince George. Champion mare Black Caviar is attracting attention with the pending arrival of her first foal.
Black Caviar was retired from racing in April last year after being unbeaten in 25 starts, which won her owners almost $8 million.
The daughter of Bel Esprit is due to give birth on Thursday week, but the foal could arrive any day
Served by Darley stallion Exceed And Excel, who stood last season for $88,000 but is now $110,000, Black Caviar is being cared for at a secret location in New South Wales.
Her owners are extremely nervous about what could be racing’s most expensive foal, but they have not asked whether it is a colt or a filly.
They’ll be happy if it’s born healthy and can run fast because they plan to keep it.
But a colt, which would have every prospect of becoming a stallion, would the best result. Putting a price on the foal is almost impossible at this stage, according to Inglis auctioneer Simon Vivian.
He said it would depend on many factors, including sex and confirmation, but joked that the figure might equate to multiplying your phone number by 10.
Black Caviar’s owners will be honoured at a luncheon at Flemington on Tuesday, A Tribute To Caviar.
It will acknowledge their support for the new industry logo, which was modelled on Black Caviar and her jockey Luke Nolen.
