condolences to the giant killer and his family Owner-Breeder Elisabeth Jerkens Dies at 86 Bloodhorse Elisabeth Jerkens, a longtime Thoroughbred owner and breeder who was married to Hall of Fame trainer H. Allen Jerkens since 1987, died the morning of Aug. 3 in South Florida at the age of 86. The cause of death was heart failure. She campaigned her horses under the name of Hardwicke Stables. Among her homebreds were the stakes-winning filly Becky's Flute and multiple stakes winner Spite the Devil, a son of Devil His Due who won nearly 44 million. Both were trained by her husband. Her most recent winner was Horsens, who took a maiden race at Gulfstream Park May 24.
