The NY Daily News will longer cover racing as of today. Long time race writer Jerry Bossert has been let go. Twitter folks are threating to cancel their subscriptions to the News.

Lt I believe that leaves only the Courier-Journal here in Louisville that has the only full time racing reporter(Jennie Rees). Look how the mighty have fallen, once it was almost front page news(albeit in the early to mid 1900's) to where we are now with coverage of racing in the U.S.

Not many newspapers have had a racing reporter in recent years, down from when it was a big thing like you say. There used to be three or four full pages of entries, analysis, columns and articles in both the Daily News and NY Post. The Post did away with their writers a while back (a year or two?)
I think the Albany Times Union still has daily coverage, and of course the Saratogian does too - in fact during the season they put out a 4-6 page special edition daily. Up in Toronto the Globe and Mail has pretty decent coverage, but racing is bigger up there than down here, I guess it's the European influence.
On the other hand, print newspapers have cut back quite a bit overall in the last few years. People just don't read the newspaper any more, they get their news on the internet. Up here the Hartford Courant (the oldest newspaper in America) is just a shadow of what it was a few years ago, and it's just barely alive.

Just like the Post. I liked Bossert's picks. I know actual newspapers are declining in sales because of online access. Why can't they add specialized sections to the online editions and charge something to access them? A lot of online papers require subscriptions anyway. Maybe all the racing writers losing their jobs can create something to rival the DRF!
