The meet started last week with high hopes, and the entry box was pretty busy. The racing was pretty good.
Unfortunately, just going over the entries today, Saturday, they were only able to fill eight races with only 53 horses (before scratches). Have the horsemen already given up and now waiting for Del Mar next week?

like I said last week, in order for this to work, they are going to need more then just 2 or 3 weeks at a time for a meet. all this was was a filler for now and to see how the track held up and how it plays. yes some of the horsemen pledged their support and have stuck to it, but others just aren't going to be bothered for 8 days of racing after coming off of a 6 month meet at anita. they would rather take the break. in order for it to work, they are going to need to disperse the racing dates more evenly and together. then the horsemen will be here.

I think Wiz is right. An 8 day meet isn't going to get everyone. I thought last Sat was good. I haven't looked at today but this is sort of a lull period - probably the best time in the summer for some R&R and staff vacations.

One thing I hope they do before the September meet starts is brighten up that indoor saddling area or move it outside somehow. It works okay for night racing but it looks really dreary on a bright, warm, sunny day - almost like the one at Mountaineer in the winter.
