I don't think 1 1/8th is what Bayern wants.
Baffert: Can the Man to LosAl Derby, Bayern to Haskell By Steve Andersen DRF
Can the Man, the winner of the Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes at Santa Anita on June 7 in his 2014 debut, will be supplemented for $10,000 to the $500,000 Los Alamitos Derby on July 5, trainer Bob Baffert said on Saturday.
The Grade 2 Los Alamitos Derby is the main race of the Los Alamitos summer Thoroughbred meeting, which begins on Thursday.
Can the Man is part of an outstanding, but strong, small field in the Los Alamitos Derby, run over 1 1/8 miles.
The other leading candidates are Shared Belief, the champion 2-year-old male of 2013; Candy Boy, who finished 13th in the Kentucky Derby; and Top Fortitude, who won the Grade 3 Laz Barrera Stakes at Santa Anita in May.
Shared Belief was plagued by foot problems earlier this year. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Shared Belief won his 2014 debut in a sprint against older horses at Golden Gate Fields on May 26. Shared Belief is unbeaten in four starts.
Top Fortitude was later second to the Baffert-trained Bayern in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes over seven furlongs at Belmont Park on June 7.
Baffert confirmed that Bayern will make his next start in the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on July 27.
Bayern and Can the Man race for Kaleem Shah. Bayern won his first stakes in the Woody Stephens.

I already know where hes going ev. fortunately bob wont be planning his schedule based on what you think he can do. ive said all along he will stretch out. baffert knows it also. you will see, and hopefully not just assume things for no reason or because you don't want it to happen.

Damn Wiz - Why always making it personal? Bayern has given a lot of us reason to think he can't last 1 1/8th

I think he can last. No problem. Off of his last performance he proved he is class. I once doubted but no more. I think he was just at an off cycle because he got beat and could not even take the lead against some not very fast horses in the Derby Preps. But to beat some very good horses like Social Inclusion by so much was very impressive. Now he has reconfiremed his first two races where he won by very far. He really is a very good horse that is coming back to those first two race Form. Now if Pablo is in the race too well I would have to think about it. lol.

Damn Wiz - Why always making it personal? Bayern has given a lot of us reason to think he can't last 1 1/8th hes done nothing to show he cant get that distance unless you were previously thinking it. im not going to go back and explain it again. he's failed to get to the wire first only twice in route races. once in a race he was eliminated in- the Preakness, and once in the Arkansas derby where he was beaten a head for 2nd in a race he needed coming off of a layoff and an injury. so that means he cant route?
