Holy snot, what a card. Ten races (two quarter horse races), only two of them non-maiden or non-Indiana Breds. In those two there were three runners (in the first race) and will be only 6 runners barring late scratches.
Considering there are an average of 800 Indiana breds each year (only 630 last year), those Indiana Bred fields are going to be mighty short. No wonder they can only get a live handle of about $2500 per race.

I think the foal count in Illinois for 2012 was around 300

With a number like that, they can't be running many Illinois Bred races. Certainly not six as they're doing at Indiana Grand today.
The number for Illinois would probably improve if and when they ever legalize alternative betting at the tracks, but I don't think that will ever happen, unfortunately.
