good luck pres. I will be watching judge judy. A couple of exciting episodes coming up on Friday: "Judge Judy has to threaten to kick out a man who keeps interrupting while he and his brother dispute medical bills and lost wages after a claimed assault; a man sues his much younger girlfriend for a loan used for rent, as well as emotional distress." "Former landlords come to court with claims that their ex-tenant abandoned their property, while he says they stole his property and harassed him; a woman sues her ex-lover for a loan used to fix his car, but he says he didn't ask for the money." As for the racing, expect a sloppy/muddy main track and good-soft turf course, with some or all of the non-stakes turf races (2, 4, 6, 8) being taken off the turf. Pending late/off-turf scratches, the fields are already down to 7-* 14-8-* 13-9-* 12-8-* 13-9-11-10-9-8 betting interests. *non-stakes turf races

they could have 300 horses entered there Friday. I still wouldn't bet it.
1- I don't like betting off tracks really.
2- that place makes me nervous with all the wired fences. it looks like a prison.

WIZ, I don't mean to rain on your parade, however as of Wednesday A.M. 100 % chance of rain, some heavy in Baltimore for this Friday, I'm curious how the track plays the following day?

George and Wiz - You are NOT amusing. You have your opinions but they are not supported by facts. A;; tracks have fencing. The weather report I read said some rain Thurs night into Fri. Saturday - Sunny and 70's. Guess we just have to wait and see. Sounds like you two are rooting for horrible weather so you can blame that on Pimlico also!
Unlike you Wiz, I've been there. Most recently 2 years ago. It is NOT "like a prison". Yes - some of the structures are run down, but the staff, environment and atmosphere was extremely friendly. I enjoyed my visit.

On a positive note - Yes Pres - It's an excellent Friday card!
This probably helped:
Trainers competing for bonus money in Pimlico stakes By Marty McGee DRF
When the New York Racing Association announced major increases to its stakes purses this year, longtime Pimlico racing secretary Georgeanne Hale felt she had to do something to compete.
So, Pimlico has come up with a $100,000 bonus system that is enticing trainers to enter more horses than they might have otherwise in the 15 stakes to be run here Friday and Saturday.
“We felt we had to come up with a way to get bigger fields for fans to bet on Preakness Weekend,” said Hale, the racing secretary here since 2000.
Under the new system, the trainer with the most points will get a $50,000 bonus. Second place is worth $25,000, on down to $2,000 for sixth place. Points are awarded on the following basis: 10 for first, seven for second, five for third, three for fourth, and one for simply having a starter.
Todd Pletcher, Wesley Ward, and Mike Maker are among the trainers who have stepped up their entries in the Pimlico stakes.
“Last year, Pletcher only ran one the whole weekend,” Hale said.
Pletcher’s presence is far more noticeable Friday, as he has two entries each in the Black-Eyed Susan and Pimlico Special, among other stakes. Entries for the Saturday card were to be drawn Wednesday.

Now we're dickering over weather....sheesh. From the weather channel: www.weather.com/weather/weekend/USMD0018Fri May 16 Heavy Rain 68°F 52°F Heavy Rain Potential for heavy rainfall Chance of rain: 100% Wind: NW at 12 mph Saturday will be partly cloudy and about 70 degrees. The track will most likely be sloppy or muddy on Friday, and the four non-stakes turf races will probably be on the main track. Depending upon how much rain falls on Friday and how late it lasts, Saturday's card may start off muddy to good. Some of the early turf races may be on the main track too.

GREAT News on the Weather!!! The heaviest rain WILL be over by the 1st race on Friday....
The track will be Sloppy for sure at the start of the day, but as we get into the meat of this tremendous card I'm sure it will be labeled GOOD...

Pres - I agree so I deleted the posts that should have been on the History board as they were completely irrelevant on this thread. Weather can be a factor so I left those but 4-5 days out predictions are not particularly important IMO
I'm watching HRTV which has a full crew on site. (am "working" at home this afternoon LOL) It's very windy there and they are expecting monstrous rainfall tomorrow. As Siegel said, it will be a bleak day. They also said the rain should be out of the area tomorrow night and they expect Sat to be clear and sunny in the afternoon - and that it's an excellent track crew, the track dries out quickly and all should be fine for the Preakness. Let's hope. Nothing can be done about weather (as at SA today) except carry out the the best possible safety, track and preventative courses of action, which I think they are doing.
The card is a really good one with over 1.2M in purses, full fields and mix of allowance, stakes and graded races. The Black Eyed Susan and Pimlico Special look like good betting races. Let's also hope fields are not badly decimated because of the weather. I read they had a new turf course this year so guess we'll see how it holds up!
Do you have picks for either of those? I guess tomorrow, depending on the conditions, will be the time to make picks!
Finally - as I'm watching the races now, all I can say is to Wiz is you must be basing your opinion on an old photo that was posted here ages ago and has nothing to do with current racing.

Evelyn, I'll have all my picks up first thing in the AM... I've handicapped for a WET Track...from the looks of it there is NO way the rain will miss Pimlico... BUT by mid day Friday it will stop.
