Amazing comment from a VP of CDI:
"Austin Miller, Churchill’s vice president for gambling operations, blamed owners for short fields in races taken off the turf, arguing that, since all horses train on dirt, they could all just as well race on it."
The clown doesn't want to be told what to do with their profits (i.e., reinvest 10% in capital impreovements), but he has no qualms about telling owners where to race their horses.
Of course, he's the VP of gambling operations, not racing operations.

Once the bill passes, CDI wont have much of a choice but to make improvements.

They'll probably sell it to Stronach.

God I hope not. Boyd Gaming that owns Delta or the company that owns EVG wouldn't be bad. The turf course in Opelousas is decent. Of course if I had a say so it would be Saints owner Tom Benson. The guy is a huge racing fan and is at the track often whenever his team(s) arent playing. The man loves the city and has poured money into it. $200-300 milion is chump change. The negative aspect of it is the NBA and NFL wouldn't go for him owning a gambling establishment.

That would be good for the Fair Grounds. I don't think the leagues care about a team owner also owning a race track any more, at least not like they did years ago.
The only person who ever had any problems was when Steinbrenner owned the Yankmees and Tampa Bay Downs. MLB express it's "dismay", but never really did anything about it.
The DeBartolos owned the SF 49ers and Pittsburgh Penguins at the same time they owned Thistledown, Remington Park and Louisiana Downs, and the Rooneys owned the Pittsburgh Steelers when they owned Yonkers Raceway and Green Mountain Race Track.
The best thing any new owner could do is to tear up the turf course and plant daisies. It's got to be worse than impossible to maintain a turf course that's essentially located below sea level. They're always going to have drainage problems when the water is expected to drain into ground that's already saturated anyway. The track did fine for over 100 years without a turf course.

Yes its below sea level. The way to solve the solution is to raise it by covering it completely with river sand/the main track dirt and resodding a new layer of grass. A start would be to kick the hippies out of JazzFest and move them to nearby City Park. However, CDI makes so much money off it, they close the OTB and slots on KY Derby weekend. So that tells me the track doesnt care one bit about the horsemen.
