In more than 45 years of following New York racing, I've never seen less than nine races carded for a day. I guess there's a first time for everything! Today there are only eight races, all with pretty short fields.
The last couple of weeks I thought the short fields were because trainers were waiting for the main track to open. I guess I was wrong again. This looks like a Beulah Park or Los Alamitos card - only 39 betting interests in 8 races (less than 5 per race) and 40 runners with one coupled entry.
Does anyone have an idea about what might be going on? Is there some kind of boycott going on? Have the quarantine problems at Parx spread to other tracks?
Very puzzling.
