After all my complaining about Aqueduct and the Jacobson/Rodriguez factor and the musical chair jockeys, most notably Irad and Jose Ortiz, I just looked at the first at Gulfstream Park. First, it's scratched down to four horses (a la Beulah Park or Aqueduct these days) Second, the two favorites are trained by Navarro and Ness - the two southern versions of Jacobson and Rodriguez. The jockeys on the two? Luis Saez and Gabriel Saez!

I should have added that Navarro with Gabriel Saez outran Ness with Luis Saez, similar to Rodriguez with Irad Ortiz outrunning Jacobson with Esquivel (where was Jose?) in the first at Aqueduct - the first and second choices. Isn't this fun?

watch the 6th if you really want to see some shit. the 1 and 2 stood out over everyone in the race off of numbers by a ton. two top jocks. what happens? they smash coming away, drop to last, and neither one made any attempt to get into the race until the last 3/16ths or so. THAT looked like a boat race to me. but that happened all day today. horses got pounded who looked crap and they won like 1-9 shots. this reminded me of harness racing today.

Watched the replay a few minutes ago.
In keeping with Stronach's total disdain for racing fans, they built some structure on the clubhouse turn that blocks the 7F and 1M chute from the grandstand camera, so they have to show the race from a camera on the far turn almost head on. On top of that there's a light pole right in front of the gate that blocks a couple of the gate stalls.
Anyway, from what I could see it looked like 3 horse (behind the light pole!) veered in and slammed the 1 and 2, but as you said both of them were in the back most of the race. Yeah, sometimes this crap looks like harness racing!
