In recent times, Oaklawn Park’s Rebel Stakes has been a very good predictor of 3-year-old success. Last year’s winner, Will Take Charge, became 3-year-old champion, while runner-up Oxbow captured the Preakness. Other recent winners include champions Lookin at Lucky, Curlin, and Smarty Jones.
This year’s Rebel card also features a top-class group of fillies and mares – led by Close Hatches – in the Azeri, and a tough field to separate in the Razorback Handicap. In our latest edition of the Oaklawn Diaries, Ray Paulick and Scott Jagow dive into that Pick 3 hoping to make up for seriously dropping the ball last year…
Have any superstitions about the racetrack?
Of course, many bettors, jockeys, horsemen and other racetrackers will tell you – don’t mess with the good side of luck and stay as far away from the bad side of it as possible.
From $50 bills to black cats and brooms, superstition is a long-standing tradition on the backstretch and at the betting windows. Ray Paulick and Scott Jagow continue their Rebel Stakes weekend visit in Hot Springs, Ark., with this edition of Oaklawn Diaries
