This is every jockey's worst fear I think. Prayers please for Anne. I'm not all that familiar with her as a jockey but know she's been riding quite a while. Maybe she will beat the odds and surprise the doctors. That would be terrific. Praise to fellow jock Rodolfo Arvizu who probably saved her life.

Jockey Anne von Rosen is preparing for a second surgery after suffering serious injuries incurred in a spill after the first race at Turf Paradise on Tuesday.
Von Rosen was aboard second-place finisher Panchita Bonita in the Quarter Horse contest. As she pulled the horse up on the backstretch, Panchita Bonita collapsed and fell, trapping von Rosen. The jockey was knocked unconscious and transported to a nearby John C. Lincoln Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery for leaking spinal fluid.
Currently, von Rosen is paralyzed from the waist down and agent Troy Bainum said on Wednesday that there is little chance she will regain movement in her legs. She is in and out of consciousness but is moving her arms and acknowledging visitors. Von Rosen is set to undergo another surgery on Friday.
“She’s not totally out of the woods yet, because they have to go in and stabilize her back to make it more comfortable,” said Bainum.
Panchita Bonita was uninjured and reportedly walking at trainer Tom Bartol’s barn on Wednesday. It remained unclear whether heat exhaustion or a bad step factored into the horse’s fall.
Bainum expressed his gratitude to jockey Rodolfo Arvizu, who pulled up when he saw Panchita Bonita go down, leapt off, and helped to pull the horse off von Rosen, whose foot was still caught in the stirrup.
“If that horse had gotten up with her still stuck in the irons, she wouldn’t be with us today,” said Bainum.
Bainum, who has worked for von Rosen for six years, said that a fund had been set up through the Turf Paradise horsemen’s office to help the jockey with her medical expenses. Bucky Huff, horsemen’s bookkeeper at the track, said that a fundraiser is also being planned for April to help von Rosen, and is likely to include silent and live auctions, a bake sale, and a dinner.
Von Rosen, 43, is a multiple stakes winning rider with 666 wins from 4,939 starts, according to Equibase. She rides both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses and has had a strong presence at both Turf Paradise and Canterbury Park. Born in Germany, von Rosen came up galloping horses in England, France, and Italy.
“We need to have continued prayers for her next surgery on Friday and her continued recovery,” said Terry Meyocks, national manager of the Jockeys’ Guild.
