No Tampa Bay Derby for Bond Holder By Ron Mitchell Bloodhorse
Bond Holder, a leading early contender for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), will not make an expected start in the March 8 Tampa Bay Derby (gr. II) and his next race is undetermined, according to trainer Doug O'Neill.
In a Twitter post March 3, O'Neill said the Mineshaft colt, who won the FrontRunner Stakes (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park last year, is still recovering from a minor injury sustained when the FedEx flight he was aboard from California to Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots for the Feb. 22 Risen Star Stakes (gr. II) experienced turbulence. Bond Holder was scratched from the Risen Star and plans to have him return to California were nixed after he became upset and was taken off the plane in Miami.
"Bond Holder is still recovering from the effects of his FedEx flight," O'Neill said on Twitter. "He is walking sound. His foot is doing better and we remain day by day with him. Bond Holder hopefully will be on the track at the end of the week, and if all continues to go well will have his first work the following week. We do not want to press him, so his next race is up in the air at this time. Bond Holder will remain at Tampa Bay Downs in the meantime."
Bond Holder's FrontRunner is the colt's lone victory in seven starts. The $366,000 earner subsequently finished fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and CashCall Futurity, both grade I, for Reddam Racing.

Hmmm, I don't know what the problem could be, there's a Dairy Queen barely 2 miles from the track!

TRYING TO START TROUBLE AGAIN I SEE? AGAINST SOMEONE WHO IS NOT HERE TO DEFEND HIMSELF? NOT VERY NICE GEORGIE.
IVE NEVER LIKED THIS HORSE MYSELF. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH REDDAM. I DONT AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT REDDAM DOING ANYTHING WRONG IN HIS BUSSINESS PRACTICES, BUT I ALSO DONT LIKE HIM OR RESPECT HIM, AS PRES SEEMS TO. LIKE IVE SAID, I KNOW THE GUYS PRIVATE LIFE A LITTLE MORE AND KNOW WHAT KIND OF AN Ahole HE IS IN REAL LIFE. BUT NONE OF THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS HORSE. HE IS JUST ANOTHER SLOW, PLODDING, ONE RUN TYPE THAT EVERYONE THINKS WILL RUN WELL IN KENTUCKY BECAUSE THE DISTANCE INCREASES. BUT THE FACTS ARE MOST OF THOSE HORSES THAT DO RUN WELL AND RATE IN THE DERBY DO SO BECAUSE THEY HAVE LEARNED TO DO IT WITH RACING AND EXPERIENCE. NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE FORCED TO RUN THAT WAY DUE TO LACK OF SPEED. IF YOU ARE SLOW, YOU ARE SLOW, NO MATTER WHAT THE DISTANCE IS. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS IT GIVES YOU MORE TIME AND DISTANCE TO GET OUTRUN BY FASTER HORSES.

Just a little tongue in cheek, nothing malicious. Who knows, maybe Doug is a member here under a benign screen name?
